"Hurricane Katrina: Why is the Red Cross not in New Orleans?
Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.
The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city. "

To put it simply....
THEY ARE DESERTING AND LEAVING THE ENTIRE AREA!
They don't want any reasons for why people should stay/move back.
If the business stay closed, residents continue to be forced to evac... etc. Then they will have a clean and clear area to do recovery of bodies, and to begin to get the infrastructure back up to support human life.
NEEDLESS to say, there is a toxic soup that has contaminated even the areas that have dried out. This soil, housing, etc. all needs to be tested and handled.
There are VERY GOOD reasons why the red cross shouldn't be in there.
People please open your mind and think.
It is getting sick how people are twisting the facts and ideas worse than they already are.

I find this incredibly disturbing...
Excuse me but I guess the truckload after truckload of food and water mean nothing to you. The city is uninhabitable safely for anyone at this time and they need to get the people out. Keep in mind that all of the normal services aren't working. That mean fire, ambulance, power, police, communication and not to mention that water has contaminated over 80% of the city with God only knows what. When the actions of a person place themselves and others in danger the state has a right to step in and should do so.

You need to understand: the Red Cross was banned even as persons desperate for evacuation were dying of thirst in the streets.
It is easy to understand why one might refuse to aid the hard core who even now, when offered an opportunity to leave, are refusing to leave (although I note that helicopters are dropping food and water to people remaining in the city). It is hard to justify when it amounted to bureaucratically-enforced death.
