Might going to the damaged areas

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Mon Sep 05, 2005 1:30 pm

I just found out last night that the First Baptist Church of Kissimmee, {my church home} in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention is asking for people to go to the damaged areas in about a month or so

We're waiting so that the chaos has hopefully died down.. and so that we don't wanna feel like we're rushing in. {At least I think that's why we're waiting}

We've already been sending them donations and water and all that good stuff..

Anyway.. I just found out last night that FBC is looking for some members who wouldn't mind traveling as a group to the war zones..

I really wanna go. I feel so bad for these people. I'd do just about anything asked upon. {Talking to the survivors, distributing supplies, ya know whatever}

I gotta find out exactly when they're going.. and for how long. Teams are going in 1-2 week shifts is what I believe I was told..

If it's 2.. I'll wait till I get my week paid vacation on 10/15.. then I'll ask for an LOA and my vacation. {I could probably manage being without work for a week since I manage my money nicely}

But.. it's for more than 2.. than I obviously know I can't do it.. :sad:

What do ya'll think..? :wink:

Not being ugly or unappreciative of your efforts but Louisiana and the MS. Gulf Coast are not repeat NOT WAR ZONES. It is a disaster area and it does resemble a war zone but there is no war in SELA or MGC. Just to clarify and ask you kindly to change the thread title.

John - I think you should jump at this chance. It will no doubt change your life forever and you'd be giving back. If you do go, I wish you the very best.

Thank you Mary.. The only thing keeping me from going right now is not knowing how long they'll be gone when they do go..

If it's 2 weeks.. I'll take 1 week LOA and take my weeks vacation right after.

If it's a week.. I'll just ask for an LOA..

But if it's longer than 2 weeks.. than as much as I want too.. I probably can't do it..

What a great thing to do! Could you take a bus back (if any are running) if it is over 2 weeks? If not just your wanting to do it says a lot about your character John.
