Its also naturally occuring in you digestive system.

The mayor sort of mastered the obvious there. Yet he's still saying that the water isn't toxic until someone has tested it. That's just stupid beyond belief.

I wondered about that too...isn't it going back into the MS river and Lake Ponchartrain?

I was reading the Army Corp of Eng thread little earlier and they are monitoring levels in the water as it is being pumped out and "supposidly" has a plan to deal with the highly contaminated water once a certain level is hit.

(good luck with that, can you say BIGGGGGGGGGG filter?)

E-coli is actually the least of the problems with bacterial contamination. There are several naturally occuring bacteria of the Vibro genus. One is the bug that causes cholera another is a flesh eating bacterium Vibrio vulnificus Many of the skin and wound infections that you will see in the coming days and weeks will be from this particularly nasty bug that lives in the warm saltwater of the region. This bacterium causes about 40 cases a year under the best of circumstances, I imagine that the cesspool that is now NOLA will provide perfect conditions for its spread. Check out the link below for explanation of this bug. Besides these bugs there are also bugs that will cause hepatitis, west nile, typhoid fever, malaria, yellow fever, etc. Modern sanitation and pest control have kept these diseases completly under control for years but with the current conditions and lack of sanitation this entire area is a breeding ground for numerous diseases.

Well,
I heard on CNN today that the Feds want to spray the area for West Nile etc. I suspect they are spraying for alot more than that because they feel they can't because of the people that refuse to leave.
They were using C 130s so....we ain't talking crop dusting here.
If they can't spray because of a few, a lot more will suffer.

It would have to be one heck of a uv light or ozone generator considering one pump is pumping 27,000 gallons of contaminated water per minute.
