My SIL was back visiting their house. They were ok damage wise, but many of their friends homes are completely gone. Nothing but stairs to nowhere or a slab :(

Wow total devastation. Sad thing is you don't hear that much about the areas that took the worst blow from Katrina. Waveland, Bay St Louis, Gulf Port they took the brunt of katrina yet the media still is more focused on NO. Don't get me wrong the flooding in NO is horrible but we need not forget the others who lost so much.

Agree - in fact, you can bet that if N.O. had taken only a brushing hit with limited damage, Katrina would have long ago faded from the media forefront. The reality is that the MS coast took a much greater hit - all inclusive, of course - then did N.O., but the rest of the world receives only sporadic reminders of that fact. And if those poorly-constructed levees wouldn't have broken in the first place, the news on Katrina would have been even much more limited than it is.

I guess the same thought goes for those hit by Rita. Katrina STILL overshadows that impact, even though many in that part of LA and TX suffered greatly, and are still suffering still today.
