It doesn't seem that unbelievable to me. 6 weeks after Rita and I still don't have cable. I had to get AOL so I could get online once I got electricity and back home. I'm grateful I had a phone line to do that with - my mom still doesn't have a phone either. Plus, it's just good to be home, problems and all. I was like a gypsy for a while there. lol
I would just suggest patience. I'm sure they're overwhelmed. And be glad they're a big enough company to do the repairs eventually. People who have Cebridge Cable here in Southeast Texas are out of luck - repairs will cost too much so they're pulling the plug. I have Time Warner and they'll get to me eventually.

My mom is irked because she had cable when her power first came back (last Saturday) for a day or so, then lost it.
Comcast told her it was because they were trying to fix other places and it affected what was already up.
It's almost two weeks since the hurricane and it's still not back.
I'll never mean lady about my cable company again. We had about a dozen channels (including CNN and HBO
) down for about a week after the hurricane. But we did have the main channels and a lot of others. On Monday, we got the rest of the missing channels back. Given the damage here, no complaints.

Ayup....16 days without cable? Grab a book or two, a cup of coffee, and spend a nice evening reading, and be thankful that cable is the only thing you have to complain about.

No cable at our place in mississippi still where my dads out. And the water repairs failed and they told him possibly 4-6 weeks now until he gets water! Oh and our house there got power back 1.5 weeks after katrina and then tornado hit during rita and knocked out power for another 2 weeks! He had it rough. i cant imagine how rough it would have beenif we hadnt come down here for the school year. Possibly could be staying here and dad coming down here after this year or moving to california. now that would have boring weather though.

Well, growing in up in ice storm alley (rural maine) we lost power for weeks every February, always the last area to get it back on. We were also the last area to get cable when it was invented...which by then I was gone away to school. (mid-eighties)
One of the great benifits of growing up like that was...I learned about getting by without power early. (and we had a farm to run)
But also, I grew up with books and creating things with my hands to pass time.
Nowadays, I watch my nephews, friends, housemates, etc space out in front of a TV like they're smoking opium. I clocked one of my friends for one week, to see just how much time he spent watching it and it came out to EIGHTY HOURS A WEEK!!! Both he, the wife, the kids, they just lay there in front of it like an Opium den.
The house is a pigsty, the kids are getting overweight (at age 7 and 10) the yard is a dump, no project ever gets finished...they're a bunch of opium eaters.
I watch it once in a while and I can't remember what I saw, really. Not like I do when I read. I retain what I read much longer. I rember things I read in high school. I have no idea what was on what TV I did watch.
Not to mention that reading leaves me more emotionally in touch with a subject, with a much richer visualization of it than if I have been spoon fed it from a TV.
The only thing that has saved my nephews from stupor is that my sister reads to them every night and kicks them off the tube as much as possible.
I thank my parents every day for not having a major TV presence in our home. Perhaps this might be a good time to really examine what role TV plays in your life and your kid's lives and maybe make an adjustment.

Dear after hurricane repair people,
Repairing does NOT mean breaking something else! I had my cable when our power returned, minus a few channels. I don't today.
Why? Because in your zeal to repair the street lights (a worthy endeavour), you cut the cable line. WTF is up with that? Don't you guys "call first" like the signs always say?
Thanks a lot. Bad enough I had the inconveniences of the hurricane both before, during and after. Now I have no cable. It's either DVDs or the tiny handheld TV that brings in a few stations fuzzily, or about 3 Spanish stations with crystal clear images (how unfortunate that I never took Spanish *sigh*)
I understand from my mother that the SAME thing happened to her cable. She lives a mile away and uses a different company, but the same idiots that were trying to fix the lights on her street cut the other cable line.
I sincerely hope that you fix lights as well as you destroy things. If not, I may find myself driving with a pole sticking out of my car after it falls on it while I'm driving to Blockbuster.
Get on the ball!
Unhappily yours,
Person who went through Hurricane Wilma

Good gosh...a little anger there T'Bonz? It's only cable! You have all your other modern day conveniences. You know these people have probably been working day after day. Things happen and we all make errors. Patience is what is needed...learn to be thankful for what you have. Think of those who have far less than what you have such as some of our own s2k members who have gone through horrendous hurricanes this year and last year and are still coping with the aftereffects. We have some members who either themselves or their family members who have nothing but a slab left of their home.
Christy...have you contacted your local cable company? Do they have a timeline?

Wow T'Bonz. As I was reading it, I thought you were being sarcastic, poking fun at those actually mad they don't have cable after a HURRICANE! But I think you were serious.

I haven't had cable for 7 weeks tomorrow, since September 23rd when Rita rolled through. After she hit, nobody in Beaumont had electricity, or the surrounding cities, there wasn't even sewer. I heard stories that the sewer and water lines were somehow mixed but don't know if that disgusting rumor was true. It took weeks for electricity, my mom just got her phone back Tuesday. She had no cable, internet, telephone and was trying to get her home repaired. My grandparents have trees through their house and other massive damage, etc. I could go on. Tons of damage here and while I've posted a little about what happened here, I don't see people in SE Tx/SW La complaining about cable and phones, etc. While it may be inconvenient, workers are doing their best and working their butts off, usually leaving their own damage repairs on hold or having left their families to come here and work. I'm grateful for what they're doing. I see them all over the place...it just takes time! Sure I'd like cable. I was lucky that my phone came back after a few weeks so I was able to get dial-up to get online. It's slower but I'm glad to be online and I just have to be patient. 7 weeks, not 2. Try a little.

Ditto that and what Linda said.

LOL. Guys, it was a tongue-in-cheek letter. Didn't think anyone would take it seriously.
I'm a big enough girl to survive for a while without cable, although it came back today.

Christy don't mean to be snappy or anything but that is one of the reason after Ivan we ended up with Satellite t.v. We did get our cable back on about two weeks after Ivan but it was never the same. After about six months of arguing with Mediacom and hearing excuses after excuses we switched. My inlaws have a place in Orange Beach which is near Ground Zero for Ivan and the cable still goes in and out down there. It might never be the same.
Just hang in there.
