Hurricane relief funds target Texas education

WASHINGTON (AP) — Texas is getting more than $63 million for Hurricane Katrina and Rita recovery efforts involving education.

The federal funding was announced Thursday by U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in late August, sending several hundred thousand Louisiana evacuees to Texas and other states. Tens of thousands of children were among those relocating to Texas.

Rita slammed southeast Texas on September 24.

Hutchison says $35.2 million will go for costs associated with students displaced by Katrina.

The state also will get $28.2 million to help restart schools in areas affected by Rita.

The funding comes from the third hurricane emergency supplemental bill passed by Congress in late December.

yep I agree. A lot of money, donations came for Texas as well as housing. To bad there is so much fraud involved and the rise in the crime rate here.
