one thing i'm afraid of... is if a major ends up in the gulf they will
start a mandatory evacuation WAY in advance for New Orleans.
Witch i believe is a good idea... but it may get very old very fast
if strong storms keep showing up and nothing ever comes of it.

Yes, they may jump the gun on evacuations...especially the first time. Nagin did say, however, the evacuation and contraflow plan will not start until 30 hours prior to landfall. I really hope we don't have to do this again, but it's going to be interesting to see how the public reacts if we do. Plus, once a storm enters the gulf, you know the media will go in a frenzy about New Orleans.

The only thing new in this one is the evaucation of the city for a cat 2. Otherwise it's basically the same plan we had before....
