NO had 17 murders in April... staggering.

Christ! Yall don't have cities! I'm sorry... I still love ya. But yes, we need to get a handle on this. It all seems to be coming from a relatively small area know as central city. It's a bad area that's always been a problem. I just can't believe they're back here killing eachother. You'd think that an event like this would make people realize what's important in life, but i guess not for some. Lowlifes will be lowlifes I guess.

This is an alarming trend. Unfortunately the drug/turf wars in the lower income sections of the city have seen a return of pre-Katrina activity. The Coast is safer, but, it is also several times smaller and less populated than metro New Orleans. The cities in America with the older urban inner cores are struggling with these inner city issues every day and New Orleans is not exempt. One thing that it does signal, is the population of the City of New Orleans is returning at a more rapid rate in recent months.

don't a lot of those drug addicts prey on tourists
in the French Quarter area?

Don't they prey on people all over the country?

you keep implying that since it's almost as bad in other places of the country... that we should not worry about how rapidly the murder rate
is increasing in New Orleans... The city is shooting it's self in the foot.
Bad press is only going to hurt the rebuilding effort. Y'all are all in my prayes...

The ONLY reason our murder rate is in the spotlight is BECAUSE of the rebuilding. I don't deny we have problems here, but it is not here exclusively. And if the right people are elected into office, they WILL take care of it.

We all truly do thank you for your prayers.

You need to check the stats again! Crime is up and has hit an all time high here on the MS Coast since Katrina. Boy oh boy.

I have to ask - do you have something against New Orleans? I am sad to see anyone's life taken, especially an innocent life. But the majority of what is happening is "turf" stuff and drugs. It happens in every big city.

God no... I love the New Orleans. The food and the people
are fantstic! (a vast majority of the people). It breaks my
heart what has happened there. God love ya... but man
oh man... that criminal ellement there seems to be more
resilliant that a cockroach! Just my opinion... NO isn't a
family place... very dangerous. And it will probably remain
that way for a long time... JMHO.

See, I don't agree with this!!! We just had a VERY successful Jazz Fest (Keith Urban is SO hot!!!), I work in the city and am here EVERYDAY. I am not fearful for my life. I mean, yes, there are certain areas I avoid, but I would think that true in any city or town!

But thank you for your compliments of the food and (vast majority) of our people :D The food is kind of good, isn't it

I completely disagree. So do the thousands of local families that lined St. Charles for Mardi Gras.

The NOLA PD just installed a security camera down the street from a friend of mine, so they can wipe out drug deals in a small section 8 area. Sounds like they're doing what they can to stop it. I feel very safe in New Orleans. Hell we walked 4.5 miles home from Jazz Fest to the Irish Channel one night and not once did I feel my life was in danger.

The more time I spend there, the more comfortable I am. I think a lot of people who go "OH NO NOT N.O!" probably either have very little experience with the city, are influenced by media reports, would generally feel that way about any nearby big city, or just don't understand that the vast majority of the time you are safe as long as you don't act a fool.

It is still a crying shame that the MURDER rate
is escalating... 17 murders in the month of April.
That's all I'm saying.
