Tree Damage Pic in Picayune

This is of the day after Katrina:

The interstate was a nightmare for a while, and I can remember the gridlocked traffic as crews desparately tried to open up just one lane.

Just so you know, this kind of damage was reported as far north as Meridian - in fact Meridian recieved heavy damage from the storm due to fallen trees.

Pretty interesting picture... Picayune also wound up being on the western, or much mentioned "weaker" side of the storm as it moved inland as well.

My youngest son came home for a visit and he was remarking about how all the trees are gone since Katrina.....MGC

Imagine that from a cat 2/3. I shudder to think what it would have looked like had she came in at 175 mph.

Believe it or not, it looked very similar to that in my area 100 miles inland. Highway 49 was blocked from about Magee to the coast. Rural roadways were horrible. We could not get out of our driveway to go north because of a huge oak down across the road. We could only go about 1/8 of a mile south due to trees and powerlines down.

My wife had some pix on her cell phone of the damage in Seminary. I'll try to remember to try to get them downloaded to the puter and post them.

Hey A2K, remember that poster saying that "no pine trees were broken in lower Plaquemines"? I'd like to get his take on this picture... some 100 miles from first landfall. Although I think you and I already tore him a new one on that argument.

I made the trip to/from Meridian several times after Katrina. The tree damage was unbelieveable that far north. I worked with the OEM of Newton County installing computer aided dispatch software in the 911/Sheriff's office there. He told me the damage there was bad.

No pine trees were broken in lower Plaquemines? Can I have some of that "stuff". I want to feel better. :lol:
