How to Register your nick at Storm2k Chat Room

#1 Postby Stormdancing » Sat May 17, 2003 1:00 pm

Hiya gang,

There have been many questions about how to register your nickname for the Storm2k Chat at Stormdancing.
Well here's some help.
First
If the room Storm2k is busy and the chat is moving fast, you may not be able to keep up with the instructions. (There's really not that much to it, but sometimes the room is moving so fast with chat it's hard.) The easiest thing to do is to type

/join #help

This will take you to the Stormdancing IRC Network Official Help Channel. We have staff there that will take you step by step and make sure you get your nick registered.

If you want to go it on your own here are the instructions.

Join the chat with the nick you want to register.

I'm NewPerson right now

In the room type
/msg nickserv register slammo12 newperson@hotmail.com

/msg nickserv register password email
slammo12 is my password
Pick a password that you will remember, but something that won't be easy for others to guess.
newperson@hotmail.com is my email address

when you press enter you will see a message (this may show up in the status window if your using mirc)

[12:46] -NickServ- Nickname NewPerson registered under your account: Dana@*.wi.tds.net
-
[12:46] -NickServ- Your password is slammo12 - remember this for later use.

Your registered

Now after your registered.
When you join chat you must identify to nickserv.

Join chat
type
/msg nickserv identify slammo12

when you press enter you will see
[12:49] -NickServ- Password accepted - you are now recognized.
(this may be in status window for mirc users)

Once again if you need any help please type /join #help
We can also help mirc users set up an auto id alias that makes this process easier.

If you would like help getting set up on mirc, we can do that also.

Our staff members are really nice patient people. Please don't be shy. Come and ask us to help you. We'll get you rockin and rollin!

All instructions for services in chat can be read by typing

/msg nickserv help
/msg chanserv help
/msg memoserv help

(Remember instructions may appear in the status window for mirc users)

Happy Chatting

BTW
You do not have to register your nickname to participate in the chat room.
It just makes sure that no one else can use your name.

Just successfully registered. Dana and King of Weather were both there. I highly recommend registering your name in a down time. For example, registering your screen name when the room has a lot of people and messages are coming in very fast, would be difficult I think. Dana helped me out some but mainly I printed out the above instructions and followed them. It was so easy! Now when I enter chat all I need to do is type /msg nickserv identify _________ (my password). That's it!

Don't be scared off anyone. I am not computer savvy and I honestly had little, if any, trouble!

I mentioned this in another thread. I followed the instructions when I was in the chatroom last night after I exited and returned a couple hours later, I didn't see a prompt for my password and wasn't able to access the chat.

I changed a setting, didn't need to enter my password and was fine.

I am not sure what is wrong, then. I did it corrected, need the password apparently the first try back in the chatroom and then changed to another feature and didn't need to enter my password and was able to chat... but only two people were there late last night not saying anything at all.

Hay coldfront77
At this time there are attacks by drone bots that are using names with 9+ characters followed by numbers. We have things set up that they are automatically killed from the network, therefore your getting killed!!!! This is only a temporary thing and we are truly sorry. Please use just ColdFront on the chat and you will be fine.

Rock if you could stay on, you could register your nick
This clone problem is temporary and we will have another solution in place soon, so you won't have to worry. Don't let this stop you from chatting tonight. You can use Rock or TheRock on chat, neither is registered at this time.

Great Rock!

Saw a lot of you there. Thanks for coming. We got quite a few more registered.

WX247 is now a DJ on Stormdancing Radio. We got him set up last night to rock!

Remember there is usually someone in #help if no one is home in #storm2k.

This week I will be working days so the early mornings might not be covered.

Thanks for Chatting with us.
