The BEST, not the biggest!

#1 Postby azskyman » Sun Jun 01, 2003 6:47 pm

I'm all for having the door open to as many weather fans as want to commit to being at Storm2k, but with more numbers come more risks...more hotspots to throw cold water on, etc..

I've visited quite a few weather sites for fans...and I have to admit this one seems to have a very comfortable, yet challenging, combination of ingredients.

And I can't say enough about those who have used their energy, time, and heart to get it this far.

Still...I'd rather see a few hundred people who treat this like it was their own home than to have a couple thousand come in and trash the place.

Those of you at the top have worked to hard on the project for us to let that happen.

Poppysky, I think I am missing something with this post,
my friend, and, I have read it twice. I see friends and wxbuds
talking to each other, if only briefly, every day or so. I see
that there has been some "attempted trashing" in the chat
room, as of lately. But, Admin and Mods are seemingly
quick to "snuff" the known "bad apples" from getting in.
Are you being worried or have you seen something to
indicate a problem/problems?

We've said that we'd rather stay small and keep the quality than get large and lose the family atmosphere. We're still committed to that goal! :-)

I think Breeze that he's just concerned that the more that comes in, the more problems may come with it too. It's kind of like that other board where we saw more and more people coming in and with them alot more troublemakers. I haven't seen anything like that myself here yet, and I'm sure that Steve was just mentioning it out of concern for the creators and management of this board.

I have NO DOUBT that Chad, Marshall, Luis, etc. will be all over the troublemakers like a fly on sh!t once they appear! :D

Believe me we're concerned as well. The good thing about having such a strong core of great people on STORM2K is that any troll that shows up is vastly outnumbered! :-) We'll surround them with reason and logic...if that doesn't work then there's always the BOOT! :-)

I have faith that the admin here will keep things under control. But I do see your point azskyman!

Here's my point.

The people who put care and hold a watchful eye on the Storm2k website only have so much energy and time. Growing it and nurturing it will keep it healthy.

With more people come more demands..of time, of resources, and of others.

I'm simply reminding those who want many more members that the course to follow is one of quality, not quantity.

My 14 years spent gathering weather folks together was a labor of love. But I realized somewhere after about four years that it was better to have committed and caring people than to try to be everything to everyone and grow for the sake of numbers.

Those bridges will be crossed here when they arrive.

Just a commentary on my experience.

I appreciate the word from experience. Some people have commented that we have a large Moderator staff here. The reason we do is to try and make sure that the board is monitored throughout most of the day! We can't catch everything but we do try! ;-) The dedication of the staff and members will keep this a fun and growing family!

Won't let it happen. That was the main reason this board and site was formed. To keep it with a family atmosphere. If things get out of hand - we have take action instead of waiting for it to get bigger or worse.

Azskyman - we only look to getting more members and more posts for the simple reason you have to keep setting goals to improve.

To keep the board in a family atmosphere we the admin must demonstrate to everyone that is what we want and is the only thing will tolerate on this board.

I see what skyman is saying and he is right...quality is definitely better than quantity. Since I've been here though, storm2k has grown a lot. There were only 24 other members when I signed up. The quality was great then and it still is now.

I have full confidence that the staff here will keep things in a family type environment. Just look at Marshall's signature...NO TROLLS! ;)
I'm not a moderator, but even I've seen trouble and reported it to staff who quickly took care of the problem. So there are even more than just the moderators and admin. helping to keep an eye on things.

I'd take one or two Azskymans or Cycloneye or Pojo or Breeze or JQ or any of ya'll than a million "others". :)

One super Chad, a Jen Chad, and a baby Chad are all worth a lot more than dozens of...

...."hanging Chads!"

Sorry...I couldn't resist.

OMG that is one sight I dont want to see!!! A preg Chad!

I have full confidence in everyone here that the goal of Storm2k to remain family based will remain unchanged regardless of the amount of members. MF and his anti-troll devices will deal with any trouble makers
