Question about Hurricane Floyd

I was just reading some of the old advisories for Hurricane Floyd of 1999 and the watches/warnings area is absolutely astounding. Does anyone else ever recall such a wide watch/warning area for any other storm? I mean it's a huge area.

...INCLUDING THE ABACO ISLANDS...ANDROS ISLAND...BERRY ISLANDS

A HURRICANE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF THE MAINLAND FLORIDA
EAST COAST FROM FLORIDA CITY TO JUST SOUTH OF BRUNSWICK GEORGIA.
A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE FLORIDA KEYS FROM
SEVEN MILE BRIDGE NORTHWARD.

A HURRICANE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM BRUNSWICK GEORGIA TO
LITTLE RIVER INLET SOUTH CAROLINA.

Floyd was huge and rather scary for most of Florida. I remember the NHC saying " it will recurve" but he waited until the last possible minute to do so. Had it hit Jacksonville, it would of had the potential to be the Katrina of North Eastern Florida.

That was due to floyds approach to the fl. peninsula. the nhc knew it was going to turn, but did not know when. they had to cover thier -----, so the vast warning area was the result. we had people from the east coast sleepling in the rest areas on i 75 here in sw fl. it was a tough call, but the people over there could not risk the chance.

There was a hurricane warning from Florida all the way to Cape Cod I believe. HUGE area of warnings. Biggest since Donna of 1960.

and believe me, we were scared over here that it was coming across the state if the trough did not pick it up.

Hurricane Floyd was a monster. It had hurricane force winds extending 100 to 120 miles and tropical force winds extending 290 miles from the center.

I do recall that at one point, Floyd was actually forecasted to hit Northeast fla but this is one instance that I believe the whole forecast issued to the public was meant as a scare tactic for Fl. They had their real forecast in their heads at the NHC but WHAT IF they were wrong and Floyd ended up hitting florida as powereful as he was. No one in fla would have believed them and took precautions unless they predicted the eye right on top of them, There wasnt a whole lot of room for error in their forecast.

Seriously, I've never seen such a wide area under a threat by a single storm.
