El Nino 2006-2007

#1 Postby lowlylizard » Fri Jan 12, 2007 3:40 pm

Is 2007 an El Nino year? Could El Nino have been the cause of so few Atlantic Hurricanes in 2006?

We are in an El Nino period, but is a weak one. Also, it is starting to dissipate. Also, it was the reason why 2006 was not as active as 2003-2005 season.

I didn't hear much about El Nino at all last Fall. Why did they predict such an active Hurricane season considering 2006 was an El Nino year?

The current El Nino event popped up a lot later than usual...thus catching the experts off side.

for example the 1972, 1982, 1991, 1997, 2002 started around April-June

the 2006 event started around August-October

some 5 months later than usual

I remember 1991, 1997, and 2002 being very wet years, especially 1991 and 1997. October 2002 was very rainy.
