Blue water

Just curious. Why is the water around this area always blue looking on the maps? I was in the Bahama's years ago and know that is is a different color than our Gulf Coast, nearly blue green, beautiful and so much clearer but surely that is not the reason for the color on a map. Is it shallow water?

Thank you Sihara. It makes sense that that is what it would represent. Wish I could find a map with a legend key for topography. There must be one but I've tried googling and evidently am not asking the correct question to get results.
