Ioke and the Int'l Date Line
Right now, it is around 9 AM August 26 (I think? just west of Hawaii), correct? So, what time/date would it be just to the west of the Dateline? Would it be one day before or one day after?

No, UTC is based upon Greenwich time. If it's 26/0600Z (or UTC) in HI, it's still 26/0600Z on the other side of the line. It's not always a day ahead on the other side of the IDL (old Hawaii 5-0 fans should know about this it's how they trapped a murderer). For example, midnight in the Philippines occurs at 1600Z which is 9 AM MST so between 07Z when it's midnight here and 1600Z AZ and the Philippines are on the same date note this the next time we have New Year's Eve-they will celebrate in Manila during the late morning/afternoon hours of the 31st here. .
