Low tide and fronts

#1 Postby stpeteweathergal » Mon Jan 15, 2007 8:32 am

My husband and I wonder why there always seem to be an extremely low tide when there is a frontal system passing through. Can somebody explain what causes this? Thank you. :?:

This question would is not possible to answer unless I knew what aspect (direction) your coastline faces. Disregarding any astronomical effects on local tides. A local wind increase associated with frontal passages could make your tide lower if you face the water looking in a general direction from northeast to southeast. Do you by chance live on the bayside facing east in St. Pete ??

We actually live on the intercoastal of Boca Ciega Bay which faces west. We see our tidal changes in an inlet next to Admiral Farragut Academy. I thank you so much for responding to this inquiry. We are always trying to understand the why this little corner of our world seems to have such dramatic tidal fluctuations.
