I was wondering when someone was going to use the "W" word....maybe they can make a showtime special about that.......must we even use that word?????

When people make claims based on NOTHING other than what they want to have happen it seems appropriate.

I doubt Alberto was upgraded. It's still a TS on NHC. A NOAA plane recorded flight level winds that would normally be right on the hurricane boundary but Derek Ortt and wxman57 are on the recon thread and both think the winds are not getting to the surface as well as usual. NHC is traditionally just a whiff cautious on upgrades too.

Not so sure the GFDL is out to lunch, not -removed- here but if Alberto loses his mid-upper level as it appears he is doing once again the LLC may get steered more northward by the Atlantic Ridge toward Panama City to Appalachicola. That still means most of the weather comes in to the Big Bend area, but the buoys still show the Destin Buoy with lower surface pressures than to the SE toward buoy 42039 I think it is.

looks like that flare up got there about an hour or two late before it could be absorbed into the center of circulaton which is in shambles

I was surprised to hear that it was upgraded, as well. And it was only a little blurb, in between commercials. I've been following this forum for days now (actually the last couple of years, but I couldn't remember my login info, so had to re-register) and from what I've been reading, it doesn't seem like it would be a cane at this point. Thanks, all, for the input.

The warning was upgraded from TS Warning to Hurricane Warning, but the system was never upgraded... maybe that's what the radio station heard and ran with it.

At least Alberto had his moment to shine for a few hours, but it still looks pretty well organized at the moment since it has a really good outflow and well defined LLC.

Here's a new snapshot of satellite and sfc obs. Doesn't look like a strong TS to me:

wxman57 -- what do you think the prospects are for Alberto to regain some strength overnight? I'd say they're very slim to none...

Starting to resemble that Nor'easter that blew past me last week.

center still appears exposed. I'm still impressed that the recon found such strong flight level winds...though the 74mph in the NW Quadrant, wouldn't that be in clear air?

strange storm.
