The NHC is just holding the NE quad data for some reason.

Why would they withhold the NE quad data? That makes no sense...

Not sure, They have passed the NE quad twice and have shown no SXXX50 data form the NE eyewall.

They are having communications problems during that part of the storm.

no NE data

#1986 Postby FunkeeProtozoan2 » Mon Aug 29, 2005 1:17 am

My guess is that they're withholding that data because the winds aren't that impressive, but they want to continue calling it a Cat 5 with 160mph winds. Draw your own conclusions as to why that is.

They did it again....somehow the SXXX50 data from the eyewall was passed over and not sent out!!! Between 0152 and 0200....no data sent while approaching the NE eyewall...

Once again, it's not the NHC withholding data. The new J-series aircraft automatically transmits this data. They are encountering communications problems with the strong rainbands.

I'm assuming they don't want the media making forecasts for them (?) despite the obscurity of this data

So can we learn this information or estimate it or will we just have to deal without it?

They really don't have the time to type up all the data. They are relaying the winds to NHC...

As for the WC-130J... it's not the aircraft's fault that there are comm problems... It's the HF radio's fault.

The inner eyewall is clearly eroding on the SW side now on the radar. This could be the best case scenario if the inner eyewall mostly erodes before landfall.

If you look at the latest satellite picture image at 6:15 UTC here, you see that the entire western side of the storm has been eroded. I think there's westerly shear starting to affect it.
