No offense, but for a sixteen year old, his grammer and manner of presenting himself online is much more advanced than that of yourself.

I am suprised to see such judgements over his age. So what, he is sixteen. If he had not posted his birthday in his user profile, I doubt you would have guessed.

Don't write him off just because you disagree with his forecast.

From this post, would you have guessed I am 'just another teenager'? I'm 18, and I like to think I present myself online more respectably than many adults.

Perhaps I am not saying this right...

I am not being sarcastic in any way. I am really amazed at this person's and other people's intellect on this subject. I wish I knew 1/2 as much as the people in this forum. Young or not I congratulate them on understanding something many people like myself do not.

What a shame! I hope everyone stays safe!

I would never had thought that he was 16!!! I say keep up the good work! Even if it's not 100% on, at least he has the guts and gusto to try ! And, who knows, maybe he will be a Met on TV someday, who we all look to in our old age, for guidance!

Severe Weather Alert from the National Weather Service

...FLOOD STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG SC 1215 AM EDT WED SEP 8 2004
... A FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES UNTIL 345 AM EDT FOR BUNCOMBE AND HAYWOOD COUNTIES...

VERY HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUED ACROSS HAYWOOD AND BUNCOMBE COUNTIES AT 1215 AM. MANY REPORTS OF FLOODING AND WATER COVERED ROADS HAVE BEEN REPORTED.

WATER IS BEING RELEASED FROM THE WALTERS DAM ON THE PIGEON RIVER. THIS ADDITIONAL WATER WILL CAUSE FLOODING ON THE PIGEON RIVER BETWEEN THE DAM AND THE TENNESSEE BORDER.

THE FLOODING OCCURRING ACROSS WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA IS LIFE THREATENING.

THE HEAVY RAINS COULD ALSO TRIGGER ROCK AND MUDSLIDES IN STEEP TERRAIN.

WATCH FOR ROADS WHICH HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY WASHED OUT BY FLOOD WATERS. DRIVE SLOWLY BECAUSE WASH OUTS WILL BE DIFFICULT TO SEE. YOUR CAR MAY FALL 10 FEET OR MORE INTO THE WASH OUT... AND COULD BE SWEPT AWAY BY THE FLOOD.

Many of us like to watch hurricanes for the technical aspects of it. That doesn't mean we don't feel deeply for the people living through one, and I don't think we should have to preface every post with "I pray to God for all the poor souls on xxx". We do care, ok? I'd think that should go without saying, frankly (though it's fine if someone does want to say it). Don't jump on people for admiring the scientific facets of the weather, it's not like we caused it to happen or are gleeful about the death and destruction. Sheesh.

Here's the rest of the warning:

WATCH FOR ROADS WHICH HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY WASHED OUT BY FLOOD WATERS. DRIVE SLOWLY BECAUSE WASH OUTS WILL BE DIFFICULT TO SEE. YOUR CAR MAY FALL 10 FEET OR MORE INTO THE WASH OUT... AND COULD BE SWEPT AWAY BY THE FLOOD.

ONCE YOUR CAR IS IN THE RIVER, THE WATER WILL BE COLD. A TROUT MAY COME IN THROUGH THE OPEN WINDOW OF YOUR CAR. YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF FREQUENTLY JARRED AS YOUR CAR STRIKES BOULDERS AS IT MOVES DOWNSTREAM. IF YOUR CAR SUBMERGES COMPLETELY, YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR AN AIR POCKET IN THE CAR IF YOU CAN'T OPEN THE DOOR.

question about aruba

#253 Postby flashflood1998 » Wed Sep 08, 2004 12:51 am

having vacationed in aruba, i remember what an incredibly arid climate it was and reading how hurricanes were very rare. with a warning up for the island and ivan looking like it will make a brush with the region as it heads NW, how will the desert-like climate handle it differently than the more common tropical environment of the caribbean? i know it's windy there alot of the time, so the residents may be a little better prepared for what could be coming...

http://stormcarib.com/climatology/TNCA_all_isl.htm

it's been a long time since a storm of this size has come this close to aruba. at the current wind speed it, could it be the highest ever recorded?

Grenada eyewitness: St. Georges is completely flattened

#255 Postby anjou » Wed Sep 08, 2004 1:16 am

Per a post at http://stormcarib.com/reports/2004/grenada.shtml ... a guy whose uncle on the island was able to call on a cell phone...

"...He says St.georges is completely flatened
(destroyed). He says that he has never seen things so horrible. There
is alot of flooding.... You can't even leave the shelter were you are because you can't move about. Phone lines are still down."

(Bear in mind eyewitness reports - and second or third hand ones - are not always right on the money.. hopefully this one was overly dramatic.)

This appears to be the latest from the Caribbean disaster relief network...

(EXCERPT) As of 11 pm Sep 7, 2004 we have not been able to re-establish contact with the Emergency Operations Centre. The Centre was destroyed by the hurricane and the staff were relocating when last we spoke with them. Power is out and this may be the reason why mobile phones are unavailable as there is no way to recharge the batteries.
