Eyewall now reaching the coast. The full force of Melissa is now beginning to make itself known in Jamaica.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

We will get under Labor Day's 892 landfall for the all-time basin record?

Eye saturated up to about 780mb.
Never seen it this high before.
Usually saturates around 850mb.

Poor little town of Black Water.
I believe Melissa now has the third lowest pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic after Wilma and Gilbert.

I’m still in shock. 892-891 mbar and still about an hour out. Jamaica needs all our prayers and then some.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Never in a million years did I think Milton would be surpassed so soon. I wonder if this is what the 1932 Cuba hurricane was like. Desperately hoping the best for Jamaica; at least Kingston won't face a direct hit or northeast quad hit

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

For an island whose strongest landfall in record history was a high-end Cat 3 (Gilbert), I cannot imagine how Jamaica could even wrap their heads around a sub-900 mb landfall, only the second time in the entire basin. Prayers...

Over 700' drop in elevation in a few seconds in recon.
Momentarily weightless and breakfast less.

Lowest on record in Jamaica is 958 mb (1951’s Charlie). Next is 960 mb (Gilbert 1988).
