National Police Memorial Day

#1 Postby Lindaloo » Thu May 15, 2003 6:08 pm

Today, friends and fellow officers held a memorial service for my best friend Larry Lee and 22 other fallen officers across the Gulf Coast. Larry was killed in the line of duty October 17th, 2002 while helping fellow officers stop a fleeing vehicle in the northbound lane of HWY.63. The suspect's vehicle hit Larry, hurtling him more than 200 feet. He was killed instantly.

I am asking you to say a small prayer in the name of Larry and all fallen police officers across the nation who have died in the line of duty.

I remember hearing you tell us your friend's heartbreaking story on TWC...I'll say a little prayer for all the fallen officers as well as those that protect me each and everyday!

We recently had national police day here in Green Bay/ Appleton area. During July, 2002 we also lost 2 fellow officers while on duty. Driver of the oncoming vehicle was mad (for some reason) at the police in general and the 2 Hobart-Lawrence Police Officers were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Both were DOA at the hospital.

Anyways, my prayers out to the family of the fallen police officers and those currently serving our nation. Being a police officer is a tough job...you have to constantly watch your back for any unavoidable incidents that might come your way.

I understand you well pojo. Can you believe they recently indicted the suspect? He was indicted on Capital Murder.

Larry was a dedicated officer and a very good friend.

Thanks Marshall, Tom and Pesh very much for your prayer.

We dont' have the death penalty here...so the suspect in our case will most likely sit in prison for life w/o the chance for parole. Due to the lack of tire tracks and the force behind the crash, the suspect was going in excess of 90mph when he rammed into the squad car. The officers were taking radar and didn't even notice the truck coming 90mph at them til the last moment...they had no time to react. The Driver side was completely demolished and the driver was killed instantly and the passenger was killed instantly also, but was thrown form the vehicle...the force of the crash snapped the seatbelt! I was in Green Bay when it happened...there was a police motorcade down Mason St. to get the officers to St. Vincent's Hospital. (I was at the Women's Build during that time and the house that were building was a block from Mason St...you couldn't miss the motorcade for the fallen officers.) The news media had pictures of the accident and you could barely identify the squad car! We later found out about the accident via news media and Jane Jadin (wife of Former Green Bay mayor)

I know it is heart wrenching!! I do believe I heard this story. Same scenerio for Larry. His car was stopped atop the bridge, he was out of his unit (gun drawn) and the vehicle sped up and rammed his unit. We do have the death penalty here in MS. But it is up to the jury to sentence him to life or death. But know that our district attorney is pushing for the death penalty. This state just put one to death for shooting MS State Trooper Bruce Ladner in 1985.

The NAACP tried to get involved in the defense of this man, but was stifled quickly. The suspects excuse was that he was afraid of the police and was running scared. The fact is, the guy was speeding, in possession of a stolen vehicle and wanted in Alabama. He fled the police because of that and nothing more. There were no skid marks at the scene, which means he intentionally rammed the unit with intent to kill an officer of the law.

I would like to be on the jury. I can at times be very persuasive, (been a jury foreman before), and I think I might want to see his butt fry.

I pray for all our brave law enforcement heroes every day...and thank God for them.

Two friends of mine lost their lives in the line of duty..one shot by a prison escapee he pulled over on I-20; the other in an accident rushing to a crime scene..they gave their lives trying to save others. Another brave metro Atlanta police officer lost his life to a sniper two years ago --he was the husband of one of my best friends in high school, the father to her children.

Two of my cousins are deputies (Lt Dwayne Worthan, Lt Scott Worthan) with the Douglas County sheriff department; I'm very proud of them; pray for them daily, and worry about them when they go on duty (my cousin Britt Worthan is a DCFD firefighter...I feel the same way about him).

May God all bless our brave law enforcement heroes, and bless their families and friends.
