Perry,
According to the US commander of the rescue team, there were between 30 and 35 Iraqi soldiers and/or fedayeenSaddam outside the hospital, and two more within (some answered the call for reinforcements when the Marines staged their "ruse" attack elsewhere...the actual Iraqi troop strength was at least twice that number beforehand). Eight fedayeen were killed outside, while the rest scattered; the two inside also were "taken out".
PFC Lynch apparently hid as best she could, because she thought that the men bursting in the door were an execution squad; only when they verbally called her name and identified themselves as "United States soldiers" did she respond. Her room was dirty, no flowers (another falsehood!), and isolated from the main wards...for reasons which you have already hinted at. You may also recall that she hung onto the med-evac doctor on the way out to the helicopter, begging him not to "leave (her) here".
The Iraqi doctor's interview (first by a UK reporter in early April, and now quoted by CBS a few days ago, and Reuters today) was a pack of lies, to be sure; the only thing on which he and the rescue team agree is that he, and the staff were bound with plastic wrist restraints. You should be made aware that, to hold that position, he HAD to be a "mid-to-third-tier" Ba'ath Party official as well as a physician; this serves to explain the BS he is laying out for the post-Saddam press.
He's covering his own @$$, Perry...not only from the Ba'athists still in Nazariyah if he told the truth (in which case he, and his family would be dead within hours), but from the US interrogators as well; he could be taken and charged as an accomplice in a war-crimes trial. For this doctor, it's a "lose-lose" stituation; of course, he is obliged to make up a story for a gullible, anti-American press corps.
This doctor alleges that the whole thing was "stage-managed", the rescue force fired "blanks" (RIGHT...send troops into enemy territory without live rounds????), and that a "Hollywood" cameraman did the video we all saw on TV (no, that was a standard Generation III "starlight" videocam for such rescues...our special teams learn from these after-action tapes). It was mentioned that PFC Lynch had "makeup" on, as she was on board the helicopter...again, not the case, as her mouth was bloodied, NOT lipstick! (I reviewed the photo...this was obvious to me, but in some papers the colors were not aligned as well as the photo when first shown.)
Then, there's the fact that the bodies of the nine others from her unit were discovered ON the hospital grounds..and earlier an outbuilding of that same hospital gleaned 300 Russian-made bio-chem suits, two female Army desert BDU uniforms (torn, but with name tapes still present) and a cot with arm and leg straps, next to a battery with live wires attached. This same room was the site in which the bodies of the 507th Maintenance Co.'s men were photographed for display on Iraqi State TV.
Where did I get this salient information? Where else but from a late-night interview on FoxNews with Col. David Hunt, AUS (Retired), who spoke at length with the commander of the US multi-service rescue team and relayed the information he had on the air, by phone, to Rita Cosby.
Take it easy, Perry...if a UK left-wing "bird-cage liner", CBS and Reuters (a German wire service of long standing) can't smell a cover-up, we here CAN. OK?
Relax...give her suffering over to the God that kept her alive, for what purpose we know not...and place your trust in Him. "For why dost thou worry? Will worrying add even an hour to thy life?" No, Perry, it won't...it will only heap more anxiety on an already over-burdened but caring person, and you are in need of a good rest.
This Board is not lacking in "prayer warriors"...let us do OUR job for a change, OK?

Perry.........I agree with streetsoldier and his carefully chosen words......there are many who gather here that can help by sending prayers to Jessica.....and ALL of our troops.
Jessica has family and long-time friends surrounding her for much-needed support..........please be careful my friend, not to let her recovery become an obsession. Sending positive vibes YOUR way also!...........p

Here's something I must say...
I CANNOT CONFIRM that what I was told regarding Pfc Lynch last night was true....I traced the email IP, and it came from where the person said they were located. As I've already learned, some people are twisted and will claim to be things they are not (family friend, US army medic, etc).
I'm not "obsessed" with anyone -- am honestly offended at any suggestion I am. I haven't emailed anyone asking for information about Pfc Lynch's condition; not her family or friends (nor for any other reason!)...because it's NON OF MY BUSINESS. I haven't contacted Walter Reed hospital, and have no plans to. I also have no plans to ever contact the Lynch family...because they'd respect my privacy if my loved one were injured and in the hospital.
Information I recieve is result of occasional emails due to my website (most from West Virginia) -- a website I created ONLY to let Pfc Lynch AND her family know MY FAMILY and I are proud of her, and praying for THEM. I also created a website in honor of Chief Warrant Officer Ron Young Jr -- because he's from my Georgia hometown, and I wanted to let him, his family, and all Douglas County residents know how proud we are. I offered to treat Ron and his family to dinner...not because I'm obsessed with meeting him; but because I'm a southern gentleman...and that's how we are in metro Atlanta. If I were a former POW, his dad would likely offer me the same. I know...we're both "good ole southern boys". That's the way we are down here -- I make no apologies.
Yesterday I was very honored to meet Ron's mother in a local market...I was there with my grandmother (we've shopped at that fruit stand weekly since I was 12 years old); Kaye and another lady (I believe she said she was Ron's aunt) just happened to be there at the same time. I didn't go there "looking for Kaye Young"...I had no idea she even shopped there. When she found out who I was...the patriotic gentleman that called her home to offer support, see if there was anything I could do when Ron was a POW...the very same thing that THOUSANDS of others in this county did -- she gave me a big hug, and hugged my 89 year old granny and 88 year old great aunt as well. Kaye thanked us because we prayed for her son, for caring about him and them.
Kaye told me to give them a call when Ron returned from Las Vegas next weekend (also gave me his email address) -- said THEY would be very honored to go WITH us to dinner...not allow me to buy them dinner, but to just meet at Hudson's BBQ, Red Lobster, or O'Charlie's and sit and chat...to fellowship as friends in Douglasville do. She knows I'm a gentleman, she knows my heart.
I don't know if I'll ever meet Pfc Lynch or her family; and really don't care -- it's not something I think about. It was not my reason for creating a website in her honor, nor the reason I prayed for her...and continue to pray for her and her family. I've been invited to Jessica's West Virginia homecoming...by a radio station; by several of her friends; by a West Virginia congressman. I turned them all down...and have no intention of ever going to West Virginia to meet Jessie Lynch and her folks (unless they request it). I don't want to do or say anything to cause ANYONE to question my motives or my honor.
My feelings for Pfc Jessica Lynch are EXACTLY the same as I feel toward CWO Ron Young....the same as I feel toward Lt Mike ("Dude"); the same way I feel toward all veterans...Marshall, D.J., Aaron.
Feelings of honor, pride, and respect...immense respect. I'd be very honored to meet them, shake their hand, and treat them to lunch or dinner. I've stated before on this forum that I feel toward Mike as a younger brother...toward Marshall and David (vbhoutex) as my brothers; as if Jacki-Lynne is a little sister. If that offends anyone on this forum, I'm truly sorry....but I speak from my heart...I'm led by my heart at all times.
Sorry for any misunderstanding my post may have created. My only intention was requesting prayer for Pfc Lynch and her family.
Sincerely,
Perry

Perry,
No one is saying that you ARE "obsessed"...your concern for Jessi's well-being is laudable, and I understand that continued prayers are needed...you should have mentioned herein, as to me privately, that since she hasn't been in the news lately, people may 'forget' about her? In this, you may be correct. OK?
I should think that the fact you are in contact with close friends and relatives of these former POWs gives you a unique perspective we here do not share (and might I add that some people would do anything to have such information...and not for the "right" reasons, as you are well aware!).
I can and will ASSURE you, Perry, that none of us has taken Jessi's name off their continuous prayer lists; we know that her trauma and healing will take a LONG time, if ever.
All I asked was that you let go, and let God...and do keep us advised, as far as you are able. Americans do NOT forget their own...and neither does God.

Perry...please understand that my intent was not to offend you.......I'm truly sorry you interpreted my post as offensive. If you re-read it, you'll see my worry is not only for Jessica, but for you also, my tender-hearted friend!
The variety of people I work with daily include many who have been....and are still, enduring various forms of abuse. Though we the public have been sheltered from the actual truth of what Jessica (and other POW) had to endure......it takes little imagination to realize what happened to that pretty little blond blue-eyed slight of a girl. Is she remembered in prayers??...you bet!! The lasting results of her imprisonment are horrendous to even think about........but, thank the Lord she is surrounded by loving family and friends.
I sure do agree, too, that many Americans have gone on with their daily lives by putting the thought of still having soldiers in dangerous situations in the back of their heads. STILL sending positive vibes your way!.....p

Think about the situation with Jessi this way...maybe God IS being merciful to her in granting her a "blank" about the specifics of her captivity. If forced to remember before she is prepared (and this could take years), she could suffer a complete mental collapse...and live out her remaining life as a "vegetable". The injuries she suffered are enough to start a war crimes tribunal without her specific testimony...they alone tell the tale far better than she can at this point in time. Think on this, Perry...OK?
She does have the close family and (I'm sure!) spiritual support she needs at this early time in her rehabilitation...and with everything that you have said, maybe this is why the family and medical staff HAVE kept her name out of the papers. She simply is not ready for the public spectacle of her unwanted celebrity...not to mention the insensitivity of the ever-ravenous press hounding her every move, demanding all the "details". In this, her family is displaying uncommon wisdom, much more so than some parents I've noticed in past months, wanting to capitalize on their offspring's ordeal.
Al that can be done is being done...all we out here have to do is care, pray, and wait. And patience IS a virtue, as al things will come out in due time for her.

Thank you...I owe you an apology.
I'm very sorry I overreacted this morning.
I'm sorta gun-shy....I've been shocked by a few emails sent to me the past six weeks. I've been called "dirty old man", "skirtchaser", "obsessed", "sexist", and "racist"; told "you must be a pervert, because no one can feel that compassionate about a girl they've never met"

I've also recieved four emails that alarmed me -- asking things so personal I don't know them about my own sisters (and wouldn't tell anyone if I did). Since my small website went online on April 4th, my 18 year old baby sister has recieved two threatening phone calls, and death threats via email (she posted about her "big bro's" site and made the wrong wacko angry). Dad had to get an unlisted number...Beth had to change her email address.
It's not just me either. About two weeks ago, gospel singer-songwriter Eric Horner's wife Debby called me long distance very upset (she was nearly in tears) -- after some heartless jerk emailed Eric calling his song "She is a Hero" a sick attempt to get famous off a young womans misery"...he was a "nobody" trying to get rich (there was more that was unfit to post due to being so threatening and obscene).
For anyone that doesn't know....HERE's the reason Eric Horner feels such a personal link to Pfc Jessica Lynch's plight and to all veterans: In 1983, Debby's first husband was killed during a terrorist attack in Beirut, Lebanon. His name was Sgt. Richard Blankenship, and he died...along with 240 other brave US servicemen when the Marine barracks they were sleeping in was struck by a truck filled with explosives. In addition, Sgt Blankenship was a native of West Virginia....the same area of West Virginia where Jessica Lynch and her family live.
Eric Horner toured with Lee Greenwood for over 15 years...and performs benefit concerts for charity and military (troops) every single month. He's scheduled to sing at McDill AFB, Florida when the troops arrive home -- he was personally invited by General Tommy Franks. Eric is taping a cable tv special on May 21st at Arlington...in honor of Memorial Day and the brave men and women that died to keep America free.
A major reason why this particular soldier's (Pfc Lynch) plight became so personal to me: my mother was also born and raised in Appalachia. I have aunts, uncles, and cousins scattered all over the hills and valleys of eastern Tennessee and Kentucky, western Virginia, and southern West Virginia. I relate to Gregory and Dee Lynch...just as I relate to Ron and Kaye Young. I can guarantee you if Jessica Lynch was born in California, New England, or Alaska I would have felt far different...I would still have been saddened; but it wouldn't have been the same (I wouldn't have become so personally involved -- probably wouldn't have created the website).
I offer my apologies for misinterpreting your post Petal Pusher. After re-reading it, I realize I overreacted and am truly sorry.
Sincerely,
Perry

What I find disgusting is that, tomorrow, the BBC is airing a "programme" based on the interview that was conducted by reporters for the UK's The Guardian with the Iraqi doctor AS "FACTUAL"...it should be interesting to note that this bastion of Britain's radical left did not bother to do a follow-up with the US joint-forces strike team OR any of the doctors who treated PFC Lynch in Kuwait, Germany or Walter Reed Military Medical Center...Hmmmm...
However, at the same time, a BBC blurb of 15 MAY admitted (for the first time by anyone) that PFC Lynch was taken directly to the Nazariyah hospital, and held there in "a special room, away from the common wards (!) and attended by two nurses (?)" for the entire 6-7 days of her captivity. The plot thickens, but the remainder of the "come-on" was more of the same tripe we have come to expect.
Apparently, "fair and balanced" does not apply to The Guardian; which usually makes its shillings on more lurid exposes of the "Royals" and whatever "glitterati" are unfortunate enough to attract their notice.
I wonder, FI, why they didn't carry the story in the Telegraph detailing payments in the millions of dollars to a Labour MP by Qusay Hussein al-Tikriti (!) for his assistance in attempting to thwart PM Tony Blair's efforts in Parliament? Now, THAT would truly be a worthy story to tell...yet in The Guardian, one will find no such journalistic expertise...or INTEGRITY. 'Nuff said...for now.[/i]

I AM A RELATIVELY NEW MEMBER, AND I JUST WANTED TO SAY TO ALL OF YOU, THANK YOU FOR MAKING WHAT I CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE AS AN "AVERAGE CITIZEN" RELYING SOLEY ON THE REPORTS OF THE MAJOR NEWS STATIONS, AWARE OF WHAT ACTUALLY IS GOING ON, I REALLY HAD NO IDEA UNTIL I READ THIS THREAD. NOT THAT I HAVEN'T PAID ATTENTION, JUST THAT THE INFORMATION OBVIOUSLY IS VERY CENSORED (SURPRISE, SURPRISE). SO AGAIN, I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU, AND I WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR PFC JESSICA LYNCH...

Welcome to Storm2K, katwood...and thank YOU for taking the time to review all this!
I believe that Jessica should, at this time, be sheltered from the press and public; her physical and emotional conditions, IMHO, warrant the strictest security if she is to make any headway in her recovery. It should also be noted that she was warned that if she ever came home, she and her family would be killed; after her experiences, she'd have no reason to dismiss this threat (which is why she has been assigned 24/7 security at the door).
Thanks again, katwood...I hope you will not hesitate to join in at every possible convenience!
