Cliff Hanger or Middle Earth?

#1 Postby azskyman » Wed May 21, 2003 10:47 pm

Kathy and I have had a king bed for about 13 years now. If I try hard enough, I might be able to remember the early years of our marriage when we spent more time on "middle earth" than we do now. We have evidence of that. Jason and Jarrod.

These days, habit finds us both more likely to be "cliff dwellers," leaving a whole lot of space in the middle of the bed while we sleep precariously close to the edge of the mattress. Sasha, our dog of 16 years, can be blamed for that. She would get on the bed and want to cuddle next to us from the middle. We'd move over. She would too. Before long, she had 70% of the bed to herself, and we had 15% apiece.

And I suspect just like many of you, there is one side of the bed that can be claimed as yours...regardless of whether you are at home, at your mother-in-laws, on vacation, or outside camping.

Mine is to the left as you look toward the headboard from the foot. Never been anything else. If I weren't being cremated, I'd probably have the same spot in the casket.

Vicki and I meet in the middle ( of my side ). She gets up early on he week-ends and when I wake up it's always on her side of the bed. I guess some part of me knows she not there and I go looking! lol

I suppose I am "middle earth" aside from the times (which is often) that either one or both cats send me to one side or the other. I only have a single bed, my mother has asked me if I want a bigger bed and I really am not in need for one and there really isn't any room in my bedroom for wider piece of furniture.

Well, I have a 16 month old that still nurses at night. She takes the middle and pushes me right over to the edge of the bed.

I'm a cliff hanger, mostly due to the other half of my bed being too cluttered.

The wife always chooses the side of the bed closer to the door, and often "takes center stage", leaving me almost on the floor (which HAS happened).

Lately, my sleeping habits are such that we have found ourselves "switching off"...she sleeps, I'm up...I sleep after she's up and gone.
