Travel Reminder....deadly pileups

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Sun May 25, 2003 8:54 am

Reminder, if you're driving this weekend, heads up and be careful out there.

Sad, sad stories out of Maryland and Nebraska, two separate accidents....

Yeah, I saw those two stories. It's amazing though that the death toll was relatively low in MD (Thank God!) when you are talking about a 100 car pileup in fog!! :o

I-80 is going to be closed for awhile out there in Nebraska.

Stephanie, yes Thank God is right! Thing that got me was one quote - cars kept coming at 60/70 mph and slamming into one another. That's scary! My dad taught me to always look ahead and if you see brake lights, slow down. Be aware. Thanks Dad! He gave me lots of practical advice like that.....couldn't actually teach me to drive though, we fought like cats and dogs on that one! But as for advice, like never trust a turn signal b/c the driver could easily have bumped it and not turning, my dad was so right. Wonder what he'd think of how aggresively people drive today on interstates? He'd be shocked I'm sure. And cell phone usage, another pet peeve of mine. People stray all over the yellow line just in my township, on a daily basis. Years ago you'd think they were drunk but now you just flash your brights, blow the horn, slow down, something to remind them - yes you are indeed driving a car, you idiot....put the phone down will ya! Okay, I'm off my soap box now....

I cant stand it when I see drivers using cell phones when driving. In NY state now we have a Law that says you cant drive and use a cell phone at the same time. Most of the time I notice them yacking and they arent even paying attention to what is ahead of them.

Toalie/2Seam - ditto here, I hate it when I see someone talking on their cell phone. I want to pull up next to them at a light and motion someone hanging up a phone. But of course with road rage and all, I don't. Boy do I ever want to do that....and I'm a hold-out in this department. Still do not own a cell phone. I don't travel so I'm rarely out of my community, so I don't see the need to have one. And if I am traveling, I'm with hubby, who has a cell phone, for emergencies. We still don't use his like most people do. In fact I know if he got me a cell phone, it would just ring away if I was driving. I would not answer it!

Cell phones...ugh, hate them! Lovely sound when you're in church, at a wedding, or important event and you hear that annoying ring or stupid song. Geez.

Major pet peeve with me!

Wasn't it last Memorial Day that the Arkansas bridge gave way?
