"Action News" and those other idiotic phrases are all promotional packages that television stations purchase to postion themselves in the market.
Remember "Eyewitness News"? Those of us in radio news and print journalism used to refer to it as "Can I Get A Witness News" because without a so-called "witness" or talking head, there was no story. Made it tough for the bubble-headed bleached blonde to explain the significance of the story without that.
Same goes for tv weather people. If the station was serious about its coverage of weather, i.e., as a news items, it wouldn't have its weather reader doing a remote broadcast from the local nursing home. Credit Willard Scott for leading the pack on soft feature items for weather readers.
Broadcast news is such a joke these days. How can these people take themselves seriously?

I remember in summer of 2001, meterologist Evan Andrews (KDFW Fox 4) was a human tea bag! He wore a suit with nothin' but tea bags and jumped in a big tank of water! LOL
