My wife has been suffering from a really bad headache for 3 days. I took her to the doctors on Thursday and they did blood tests and checked her and told her nothing was physically wrong with her. Until this morning I rushed her to the er, she told me that she could no longer stand the pain, on a scale of 1 to 10 ,she told the nurse it was a 7. The doctor asked her a bunch of questions, then gave her a cat scan. The results came back clean for any kind of tumors. Then he told because she had the headache, it was of an unkown orgin. Though he said she must have some kind of viral infection. On thursday he had dizzy spells, double vision, and blurriness and the headache. Does anyone know what kind of infection it could be??? They gave her something for the pain with some nasty side affects??? Thanks

Bud - I PM'ed Breeze/Annette. She's an RN. I wish I could give you advice, since I've had headaches for years but the most severe mine have ever become is what's called an aura migraine (slight blurred vision, as if you're looking into a pool of water). I've had about 2 or 3 aura's, over the past 20+ years.

I'm trying to think of other members in the medical field, but right now only Annette comes to mind.

How old is your wife? What medications has she taken during the three days for the pain? Has she had these headaches on a regular basis?

My wife is 34. On thursday she took aleve, and on friday she took excedrin migraine. Now the doctor put her on a substitute medicine for fiornal. The doctor said it is for the headache.

Bud, I work for a neurologist, and, we deal with various types of headaches,
every day. I'm not even sure what type of infection the doc may have been
referring to. She needs to see a neurologist, nevertheless, for further treatment.
That's good that her CT was ok, but, they may still order an MRI, which can show
more than the CT. Some insurances allow you to make the appointment with
the neurologist, without going through the primary doctor's office. It sounds
like a migraine, but, it needs to be checked further, just to be sure.

She has never had migraines, but she has had a history of sinusitis.

Menigitis is a inflamation and swelling of the brain and causes severe headaches. But usually is accompanied with vomiting, and neck pain. The only way to diagnose is by spinal tap, blood work would come back clean as well as the cat scan. I am not a nurse, or a doctor, I just thought I would throw that out there. My daughter had gotten it and had a severe headache, light sensativity, and alot of vomiting. I hope she gets better soon, and it is nothing too serious.

A sinus headache usually isn't a 7 on a 1 - 10 pain scale. When someone
admits to not being able to stand the pain, any longer, migraine is just one of
the first things to look at. When a headache interrupts one's normal day-to-day
activities, I'd suggest a neurologist. Dizziness, blurred vision, and double-vision
don't typically go with sinusitis.

They took the cat scan and didnot find any wrong, said it was clean.

The dizziness,blurred vision and double vision went away quickly, just still has the headache.

If the headache doesn't go away in the next couple of days, I would still
consider it. She may need an EEG (electroencephalogram). We all think
of seizures as the kind where the person falls out on the floor, thrashing
about, but, sometimes, there are "small" seizures, where the brain's
communication to the rest of the body is interrupted, and, it can cause
the symptoms that she has experienced. I'm not suggesting that this is
the problem, but, with a persistent terrible headache, this could be a
possibility, as well. Those type seizures can also cause migraines.

My wifes doctor put her on butalbital for pain it has started to ease her headache better than it was last night. She can finally sleep.

Finally, my wife is getting some relief from her headache. Iam thinking it could have had something to do with stress. The last three weeks she has put overtime in at work, 55hrs,51hrs,and 45hrs last week. The medicine the doctor gave her is for tension. He still says she has some kind of infection.

The doctor took blood on thursday, and found no infection. Said her blood was fine. Iam beginning to think her headache was stress related, but suffered with it for 5 days now.
