Bad things happen in threes?

#1 Postby coriolis » Thu Mar 16, 2006 11:08 pm

New Years eve: Our dogs get out and one of them gets killed by a car.

Some time in February: My cousin's daughter was killed in a car accident. I just found that out tonight.

March 3rd: My wife's mother died of heart failure due to old age and a lifetime of smoking. She lived with us, so that made it even harder.

My mother always said that bad things happen in threes. When she told me tonight about my cousin's daughter, while saddened, I was relieved in a perverse way.

Has anyone else heard that saying?

Prayers on the way for you and yours for the family.

Not only heard it, but it happens to me but all in one day, here's an example:

get flat tire parking car...go to get it fixed and call my mom to let her know I would be late coming over, no answer after trying many times (call brother he can't leave work)go home after repair to tell hubby I have to go to moms (phone was busy) get mugged 2 steps away from putting key in lock of front door-had to call cops to give description-finally get to moms, peeked in window, she's on the couch not moving, call cops, finally brother comes & cops come, break cellar door window to get into home...major gas leak...that's just one example and I never ever want to go thru that one again!!!

Yeah, she was rushed to the hospital, her blood was 100% saturated with gas, when they put her in the oxygen chamber (hyperbolic(sp?))she thought she was back in Poland and was going into the gas chamber and had a heart attack, sigh, she was never the same after that (and of course ever my mom died I do not keep in touch with my brother)

I was so upset because I couldn't get in touch with my mom, I didn't care about getting mugged, after things quieted down I went to the police station to try to ID the guy, but they never got him but not long after that we moved so hopefully I'll never see that *(*(*head again

Geez now that's what I call a bad day...

Prayers and condolences to you and your family, coriolis. So sorry to hear that.

My family has had its share of bad luck since my grandfather broke a mirror on February 1, 2000? I believe. But that story's for another time.

Yes things generally happen in 3's for some reason. A few years back, all within a week... a lady driving down the road had a heart attack, we found her dead after she pulled into our driveway to get help. Later in that week we were riding 4 wheelers on some trails. After coming home and riding around the backyard we noticed some firetrucks and ambulances heading down an abondones railroad track where we were just riding. We jumped in our car to see what was going on. When we got there, we heard that a kid rolled his 4wheeler on top of him while attempting to climb a hill with his father on the back with him. The kid died in impact. Let's just say I stopped riding my atv for quite some time. A few days later, one of my friends' dad commited suicide by setting his house on fire here in town. Definately some crazy stuff.

My bad luck of threes happened within the space of 6 months. In June 1999 oldest son was diagnosed with kidney failure and placed on transplant list. In Oct 1999 I am diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had to take radioactive iodine as one of my treatments before a whole body scan. Then placed on synthroid for rest of my life. In Jan 2000 youngest son was in a bad wreck in Rocky Mount , NC after hitting black ice on I95. Many physical injuries but internal injury he got was life threatening. He was taken to a hospital that was about a mile from the wreck site He spent 4 days in ICU and was airlifted back to Norfolk, VA military hospital where he remained for another month. He was coming home to see if he could be a kidney donor for his brother. He wasn't able to be a donor after he was hurt and the internal injury compromised his own immune system. The oldest son did receive a kidney from a stranger who had been in a wreck on Sept 2.200 . He continues to do well with the kidney.

They do come in 3's. Towards the End of last year my wifes Grandfather passed away. Feb 28th of this year my mother passed away after battling cancer and now my wifes Grandmother is in the hospital with heart problems.

The world works in mysterious ways.

I have always believed that. My Mother's brother was killed, the next year her sister was killed, then three years later her stepfather passed away.

I've always had bad things happen in threes.

Things do happen in 3's. My 3:

1) August 19, 2005: Another bladder infection caused enough damage to need surgery which was done in December.
2) August 23, 2005: My grandma died after a battle with cancer.
3) December '05/January '06: I have two relationships fall apart on me within the space of 2 weeks.

Katrina, Rita, and Wilma...
(and Dennis and Emily and Stan)

I guess it might go either way now.

Bad things can't keep happening forever, though.
