First of all the US has apx. 231-277 cases of mumps a year. Check out this link.

This outbreak sounds strange to me but then I'm paranoid. I have a couple of questions. I am 54 years old and have never had the mumps or been vaccinated for them. I'm curious about the rest of our Storm2K family.

I am in my late 30's - had the mumps sometime before I started kindergarten.

I had them all - Mumps, Measles and Chicken Pox (but not all at the same time!). I had the Measles on my birthday and I'll never forget being so sick, that I was supposed to stay in my bedroom, with the shades/curtains drawn and door closed. I was supposed to be resting but all I wanted to do was play outside with the other kids (This was May and I was about 9). So I stood at my window, peeking out, for what seemed like hours. Now I'd love to have that much sleep (but not be sick). That was an awful Birthday!

I will never forget the chicken pox because I couldn't go to the State Fair. I think I cried all day. A Dr. I talked to thought perhaps the vaccine that was given in that area must have been bad or inactive and that's what caused the outbreak.
