I'm so excited. I met some online right after my last relationship crashed and burned and we talked for the past month and then last Saturday, we decided that it'd be cool to meet so we're meeting this Friday. It's a international relationship. American meets Canadian.
My date is 18. I'm 22. I think we might be at different stages in life so would going to this fancy restaurant around here called Cafe Michael be a bad idea? I was thinking restaurant followed by a movie followed by just going for a walk to really get to know each other. How does that sound or one of the two? Being 18, my date might just be into say McDonald's or something? I don't think so...seems more sophiscated.
Also any tips? What are some do's and dont's?
Kathy, CM, It was so hard to end my past relationship and I really questioned if you gave me the right advice in chat for a while but if I hadn't ended that one, I'd still be hung up on someone that liked me but didn't want to meet me and I wouldn't be meeting someone in person who likes me for me for the first time so thanks for that!!
First date

The location would depend on the lady in question. You know her better than we do so you are better placed to decide. I would say fancy might be too much but you don't have to go fancy to impress and have a good night out.
Originality is the key, whatever you decide to do if it is original then you will be in good shape. Intimate yet relaxed is often better than fancy. Pick a location with a good atmosphere where you will both be relaxed and able to enjoy each others company and still get to know each other. I once took a lady to a restaurant ( I forget the origin of the food) where you ate with your fingers and basically sat on the floor on lots of pillows and cushions. It was Intimate and relaxed and at the same time something she had never done before so there was that element of surprise and certainly something not to be forgotten!

if she truly likes you money won't matter...expensive gifts, etc....flowers are always nice and show that you are thinking of her...
find out slyly what kind of food she likes and blend that input with a bit of your taste and come up with a "compromise" between the two. relationships are tricky and they also involve a bit of give and take...maybe i'm wrong by suggesting "compromise" on the first date but that way she is part in her element and you are part in yours.
take her somewhere you have never been before...make a "romantic" picnic...
first impressions do matter a bit but i am assuming that a lot of that (at least the verbal "what kind of person is she") has probably already been figured out some.
not all girls like to be "wined and dined" some like to have just as good of a time as the guys! --so in that case flowers might be over the top.
i agree with nholleys' point that you probably know her better than anyone here! and to be original with your idea!
some 18 year olds are already sophisticated and want to go out to a fancy place; some don't!!!
anyways that is my 2 cents! good luck and let us know how it turns out!!!

Jason good luck with that. By the way I take it you finally sent her your picture. I remember when you were worried about that. Good luck man!!!! Please take her somewhere nice and if you dance go do that after. One thing I want to tell you is make it special for the both of you. Do something really cool that makes you stand out.

You're very welcome Jason. Now if i could get my daughter to listen to me i'd be one happy mama!

I do hope you and your date have a great time but do me a favor....stay around people the entire night. Not necessarily be with a group but be in a public place. You're meeting someone for the first time that you met over the internet. Must be the mama in me! And most importantly, we want an update first thing Saturday morning!

Kathy, yeah for sure. I see horror stories each night about the Internet so I'll definitely be careful and meet in public places.
South, actually I didn't show my picture. It's a blind date but personality is way way more important to both of us.

Yes a full report will be necessary and due on Kathy or Kelly's desk on monday morning at 9:00. If the report is not turned in prompt manner, there will be no more baking or eating people in chat ever again.
But, on a serious note I really hope that it goes well for you jason. I have a feeling you guys are going to have a great time.
