ditto on that.

i have a dishwasher but now that there are only two of us at home, it's SO much easier to just wash things by hand. Probably more environmentally friendly, more energy efficient too.

I had started a load of dirty dishes when the dw started acting up so I had to wash them by hand. My hands were sooooooo pruned by the time i finished.

in the short term, yeah, that's great, but think about the landfill issues this country is facing and how much garbage is generated every day...

i'll wash by hand.

In fact, we are still mourning it in the chatroom...

Do we have the dishwasher towels at half-staff still?

I could only use them once. I get the heebie jeebies about putting on rubber gloves, gardening gloves, rubber boots on more than once. I have visions of some kind of spider being in the fingers of the gloves or the toes of the boots! That's my big quirk!

When is the funeral?

I want to attend, in my Playtex yellow gloves, Dobie pan/pots scrubber, Dawn dish detergent in hand.

And oh yeah, hair in face!

I can picture that, Mary, and with a gun holster, but with dawn instead of pistols in the holster. Don't forget the wet spot on the front of your shirt from the splashing.

I had to stop using my dishwasher and my electric dropped $20, so I'm not going to use it that much...I want to move from this stinking apt anyway and get a real home!

Funny that you should reply.....I was trying some Ed-like comedy....lol

angel - years ago I had trim my monthly utilities drastically (post divorce, living in 1 BR apt., going to college full time and working part time in the college's registrar's office). I cancelled my daily newspaper and read the paper in the school's library. I made lunch my main meal of the day - as a student, I could eat from the hot and cold salad bar line, for $1.99. What a deal (of course this was 1985 too....lol). I didn't use A/C, I opened windows. And finally I stopped running the Dishwasher and washing dishes by hand. Like you, I saved, I swear $20 a month!

Now we have a tight budget again (college tuition for our oldest daughter) and I like to remind my husband we could do our own dishes.....he says no, it won't save us that much. I beg to differ!

Think of the couple time too, I say - one wash, one dry.....he rolls his eyes.

We use the dishwasher......lol

One wash, one dry? We wash and the kids take them back out of the rack to eat or drink more before they have a chance to dry.

I'm sorry that your dishwasher went kaput. We have one but rarely use it since it's only the two of us. Plus, it's one of those where you need to wash the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher....

Anyway, enjoy your new one! :)

Glad you finally got a new one! Just in time to use it for a home cooked Easter dinner maybe?

I ran out of dishwasher detergent once and asked my next door neighbor for a small amount. She handed me liquid dishsoap, such as Joy. I said oh no, electric DW detergent. She said she didn't have any, they never use it. I said what? You never use your DW - why in the world not! She hates to know that there are a handful of dirty dishes sitting around, first off cluttering countertops or the sink. Let alone sitting rinsed but dirty in a DW - heavens! Their house is immaculate and she vacuums every single day (never needs carpet cleaning either). They take their shoes off the minute they walk in the front door. Long story short, she said they only used the DW when they had a crowd over for a big dinner, such as Christmas. She had only used this DW a handful of times and at this point had lived in the house for 10 years. I stood there on the front porch and was speechless. When I found my tongue, I said well we're on our second DW (we both moved in 6 months apart from eachother, brand new houses)! And we often run it twice a day on the weekends! Now it was her turn to be speechless!

I've never asked her for DW detergent again - just sugar or eggs!
