That would be the WORST thing they can do. Lets not let education suffer because of this. Students that live close to school can walk or bicycle there; others can carpool or use bus transportation if available.

I don't know. They said at the beginning of the school year that there would be no field trips this year if gas prices stay high. They did come down temporarly and they went on one trip and it was only down the road. Usually they go on at least 2 in the year. I have not heard anything about schools letting out early though. I agree with George, this is one of the last things that should suffer. This whole gas thing is out of control. Up to 3 bucks here.

school's getting out early??? I wish...heck, in most of my classes we are a couple weeks away from being able to take the EOC's, then for a few weeks its study in class...have to wait until early Juneish to take them though...I wish we could take them now and have another 3 month summer vacation like last year...(long story short...calander was changed) Today is the last day of spring break...
Oh, the marching band did cancel some of their further away competitions last semester due to gas prices post-Katrina...

the only problem is that my school system is already doing that...and still is not fairing to well...enough to keep running though...otherwise we students are normally not told anything until AFTER it happens...go figure...george_r_1961 wrote:BUD wrote:early this year??One teacher told me if gas hits over $3 in our area that they will close schools 3 weeks early.

oh...cause I thought he said a teacher told him that? I was just saying that I want to see a news article on it before really jumping to conclusions and hoping that it hits $3, as I would if schools would be canceled 3 weeks earlyCajunMama wrote:brunota2003 wrote:I would like to see some sorces though before jumping to conclusions, such as a newspaper article...but...its all good
Bud was asking a question about it. He was not reporting that it will happen.

There are no contingency plans like that around here that I am aware of. Also, each state sets/regulates the number of days one must hold classes in order for it to count.
What you would likely see happen is a cutting of trips rather than closing school all together.
