Here in Guate I am hearing all this topic about a massive rally and protest on May 1, 2006. What will this protest do? Will it be effective or will it backfire? What I don't understand is that everyone loves or wants to speak spanish, but we despise them as well.
PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THIS ABOUT ILLEGALS, BUT LET'S DEBATE THE PROTEST....
What If....

This will get political tho. The spanish language is a big political problem here in PR, one reason people are afraid of statehood, they would have to learn English. Our whole legistature is in Spanish. Also, it is a political issue with school teachers in the states. So this is definately a political issue.

How so? I am looking for ramifications of the protest (not political at all)...

That is tough to make teachers learn spanish in order to instruct their students. Nobody should be forced to learn another language just to please another.

Too easy to turn political.
My own reply would be political if I attempted to respond and I'm sure there are others that could go that route. It's too close to the immigration issue, as well as, by your own admission, a debate (involving politics).
Sorry, gotta lock it before things get heated.
