You know, skin is funny. I have been here so many years and outside and I am still not really dark. Maybe it is my skin. My sis comes down and gets really dark in one week visit. I don't know what the problem is. I go to the states and everyone is as dark as me or darker, just being out for a short time. I have burned tho here, staying out a little too long on the beach.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks like you furry. I love the sun, and consider myself a sun worshiper too. I can't seem to stay away from laying out in it, I absoutley love it. I know I will be paying it for it real soon, Im sure I already am just don't know it yet. I know I will be one of those shrivled up old ladies that are all tan and wrinkly, sitting on a chair at the beach or with a fishing pole in my hand.

I just watched something on t.v. about the warning signs of skin cancer. And I know fair skinned folks are more at risk, and that is not me I have that olive skin and get a nice tan line in one day. I do however still check my skin for irregularities because no one is immune. Here are 2 links. The first one talks about the ABCDE's of Moles & Melanoma, very helpful.

I loved to lay out in the sun! I remember in the 70's as a pre-teen and teenager using BABY OIL! I was never one for getting really dark, but I would get a nice tan. I am fair, though I do have 1/4 Italian in me, so that saves the rest of my Celtic skin. However, I will burn if I'm out too long and when I've gone on vacation to the beach or on a cruise, I do use SPF 45. I think my meds also affect the sun's exposure on my skin.
My skin is strange too. In the winter it gets very dry and I use Oil of Olay facial moisturizer and eye gel. However, in the spring and summer, once the humidity cranks up, I almost don't even need the moisturizer. I stop using foundation because I really start to break out.

I now understand why women wore those huge hats and bonnets and the like. They also soaked their skin in buttermilk to fade the sun spots. I have had a few bouts with skin cancer since moving to Florida and stay out of the sun as much as possible. If I have to be out I have SPF in everything; makeup, lotion, hair care, even my shirts!
