Waste

#1 Postby Janice » Wed May 24, 2006 8:51 am

I try not to waste any food. Sometimes my hubby buys a big bag of salad greens and by the end of the week, 1/3 is bad. He buys the huge bags at Sams Club. I tell him to buy the small bags, so he picks up two...

What is one thing you find your family has a problem with wasting a little.

Baby food, believe it or not. Our bearded dragon doesn't eat much of it so I have to throw half the jar out all the time

Lol! Digger is 4 years old, ever since he had parasites/hookeorms when he was 1, he refuses to eat crickets, superworms or greens and the vet gave me liquid calcium and told me to try the baby food, which works and sometimes he'll eat butterworms (I have 500 of them in the fridge now)and hes gained weight, very active and the vet said that he's one of those that just wants to eat that way.

How old is yours? (laughing at the newspaper comment)

They are both 2 years old...They are my kids...We used to feed them just the crickets and greens ...But we have come to relize they will eat anything ..We go out to dinner and ask for a "lizard bag"...We cant put anything in the bottom of the cage like news papers they will eat it....Our favorite thing we like to do is put them in a 5 gallon tank at night and we rig up their heat lamp so the top of the cage is open about 4 inches...After a few minutes you have a ton of flying bugs in the cage ....They love it and its fun to watch them chasing the bugs around... :ggreen:

How about this beauty. He showed up at my pool one day. I don't know how long he is cause his tail goes down into the water.

Ah, an inguana-beautiful!! I'd never own one, they grow huge and they need a huge cage (contrary to popular belief, a small cage does not stop their growth, too many horror stories from the rescues that I know of)

Isn't he a regal looking fellow... A beautiful creation.

What do you have? A form of a lizard?

My folks and I live in a townhouse...and with more limited space since they have reached their downsize years  ...seems like half the groceries...in particular produce items go to waste alot.

I really try to watch what we buy. Only the things that go with meals. We do not buy much in snacks at all since I am dieting and John is diabetic. We eat tons of fresh fruits and veggies.
So, not picking up a lot of junk stuff and things that you think you may eat later, helps.

Yep, that's a big thing with us is snack foods and sweets. Also, we just gotta have that Breyer's and/or Edy's Grand ice cream. None of us need it though...(there goes the 'fun foods' so to say it seems).

Also, my Mom is a diabetic (she hasn't reached the insulin stage yet...but before too long if our eating habits continue as they are)...and I'm a borderline diabetic (hypoglycemia).

Sure is difficult to break out of the rut!
