Snookums!

#1 Postby azskyman » Sun Jun 08, 2003 9:06 am

This is a short personal story...but it just popped into my head and I thought a few of you might get a laugh out of it. Otherwise, if you've had your fill of my posts...just cruise on by.

Back in the 80's, there was scuttlebut in our little town and around the Rockford, Illinois, area that local TV meteorologist Sue Mroz and I had more than weather interests cookin'. There wasn't (Kathy DID ask, however). Would have spoiled the fun.

Anyway, I would call in my temps or precip on a faithful schedule and she'd mention our town and my name on the air. I even did a live TV show with her one evening...about weather of course.

Well, it came my turn to invite a guest to our Cosmopolitan Club lunch one Wednesday, and Sue was who I brought.

Being a men's group at that time, my fellow club members were relentless in teasing and prodding about our relationship. A wonderfully enjoyable young woman (married by the way), her time came to speak.

"It's great to be here among so many fun people," she said. "And I owe this opportunity to Snookums, I mean Steve, for being here!"

The group roared, and I turned a thousand shades of red.

That night, on her TV weathercast, before thousands of viewers, Sue took it one step further. She discussed the fun lunch with our club and then, to top off the day, told the viewing audience that "according to Snookums in Belvidere, the temperature was 67 degrees!"

To this day...an old friend of mine who was in that club, always refers to me as Snookums.

Do we add that to Skyman and Poppysky?

And NO...never was our relationship ever anything than professionally fun and weather related. Cross my heart, Kathy.

Snookums, I believe you, I really do. I also believe in the tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny.

Santa...indeed Santa is real, but so too are the others. If I did not believe that was so, I wouldn't be looking forward to my discussions on that topic with Emma.
