Asthma & allergies
Does anyone who has asthma and or allergies find that the weather patterns directly affect thier asthma allergy flare ups?
I am suffering soooo bad right now in South Florida with the thing hanging off our coast. I cant take it anymore.

My 19 year old daughter has had asthma since she was about 9. Certain things would set it off - cold spells, hay fever, things she was allergic to that was in bloom, cats. We had her tested by an allergist and she recommended:
-Keeping the windows closed. Using A/C.
-Making her bedroom as dust free as possible. Removing dust collecting objects - heavy drapes, throw pillows, stuffed animals, dust ruffle on the bed, washing the bedding in very hot water once a week, encasing the mattress and box springs in plastic zip liners (very inexpensive, about $5 or 10 each), keeping the door closed to the rest of the house. Removing an area rug if the flooring could be damp mopped (we have wall to wall carpeting so we couldn't do this). The theory was since she spent at least 8 to 10 hours in her room if it was as dust free as possible, her airways wouldn't be so restricted.
-Never open the windows at night - the worst time to breathe in fresh air is just before dawn (for asthmatics).
-Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day.
-Buy a nebulizer, that way when she was particularly having trouble breathing she could take her Albuterol meds by breathing them in, instead of her inhaler. This saved us countless doctor office runs. It cost about $400 I believe.
She has just all but outgrown it by now.
Hope you feel better!

I hear ya, I suffer from the sinus issues and the asthma, the allergy issues always show up just before the asthma and I can tell you its coming! Yesterday I thought my head would explode! However as a kid I only had asthma issues when i had a bad cold or something now as an adult it has gotten bad, i suffer many times a month for no reason other than the weather i can see. Certian things can set me off but the weather defenitly doesnt help. I dont get it. I wish I could pinpoint the issue like baramoter, ect. so mabey i can control it better.

I have severe asthma and boy, it's always rough around here this time of year. I get more infections, have more attacks, and generally just feel worse. I also have many allergies, which aggravates the asthma, along with causing sinus and ear infections (which I suffer from chronically anyhow, but worse this time of year). My nebulizer doesn't get a break this time of year.

I know what you all you guys are talking about. Last year was the worse allergy sinus related illness I have ever had. It was bad before but once weather systems added pressure changes it was Unbelievable and then came the mold from the storms which I am also allergic too, was not just me doctors were packed. Ya'll should try Tylonol severe sinus and musinex along with perscription antihisimines that OTC stuff did nothing to help.

YEAH - the Musinex D is very good! I think it's sold from behind the counter.

I spent years, many many years, being treated for sinus/allergy problems. I had the shots, nasal surgery, moving to another part of the country, meds, meds, meds. My last and best allergist was president of American Allergy Association. He told me one very important thing, regardless of what you are allergic/sensitive to: You spend 1/3 of your life with your face on a pillow. Wash or replace it often! Feathers and foam are bad, polyester/dacron is good.
One place I lived here had an unfinished concrete roof with 4" lip all the way around. It held water for most of 14 yrs. I found out about toxic mold, stachybotrus or "black mold", because it seeped into the bedroom through joiner cracks in the concrete block and made me chronically ill. This is a neurological toxin that gets in your body and doesn't go away without treatment. Those of you in flood-prone or hurricane-damaged areas, be careful you are not living with this mold in your home!

o.k. so what has changed overnight that today after a week of living on xoponex and pulmicourt and allergy pills, today i wake up and i am o.k. no need for my medicine. Could it be the baramoter? I was thinking of charting my symptoms and the weather daily to see if i could see a pattern. The fron passed us and I am fine last night i was suffering until midnight and i wake up fine. Doesnt make sense?
