Social security to some people is the only form of any retirement income they will receive. If the social security funds cease to exist, what will these people do? Some people don't even save a dime. Will this cause the US to become a welfare state again taking care of all the people that will never receive ss and didn't save or will there be a new system put in place? Remember, there are so many of SSI too and not able to work.
Please let us keep politics out of this.

And I am one of them

IF you could try and save ANYTHING, it would be better than nothing, but I know it is difficult for many. IMHO, the money we've already put out in our paychecks over the years SHOULD BE THERE for us when we retire/no longer can work. There will be alot of people working way past retirement age.
I'm hoping that my 401k/IRA's will supplement an existing SS check too breeze!

Alicia ive got both by choice. The last time I saw my paycheck deductions are being taken for SS. I have no choice there, and now it appears than when I retire in 22 years there may not be SS. And that stinks.
