It looks like a large pile of only rubble I cannot see how anyone could survive unfortunately. CBS just stated that doctors buildings were on the 1st floor and possibly 100 residences on the upper floors. :(

Some have been rescued, but given the time of day,and the fact it was businesses occupying it,there must be alot of people who did not make it :(

1010 WINS reported here that it may have been a gas explosion caused by doctor trying to commit suicide.

They are reporting now that Emergency Officials are saying there are no fatalities and the Fire Dept. doesn't believe anybody else is trapped in building.

It's not terrorism related. And it just something cops are investigating now.

Oh I so hope that is true maybe everyone had left for work already. I now see though that they are bringing in cadaver dogs and infrared heat sensor equipment.

I recall something on CSI where someone was trying to either commit suicide or murder (can't remember which or who the victim was -- but I think someone was in a chair, tied up). Anyway, whoever was attempting to bring about the death disconnected the gas line behind the stove and then had a candle low near the floor. The gas escaped, rising to the ceiling first, and then gradually filled up enough of the room to reach the candle that was lit. Kablooey!

I wonder if he was doing something similar. I know CSI reruns on cable. Sometimes people get their weird ideas from TV.

IMO, this looks like it's the result of a bad divorce. Ex-wife claiming psychological abuse because the doctor closed the joint account and put swastikas around the house; doctor claims she deposited her own money into a Dutch account in her name instead of the joint account (which the divorce judge did not have investigated further) and that the swastikas were part of the stories he was leaving out to encourage her not to raise their children in Holland based on historical events and his personal experience living under fascist, then communist, rule in Eastern Europe.

I read through the entirety of his rant email (which I will not post here as it is highly political, but can be found though an Internet search), and it sounds like a guy at the end of his rope. He does go off on strange tangents which I have trouble comprehending, but it seems more like a desperate plea for help. The doctor was served with eviction papers recently in the home his parents had obtained (the one that blew up allegedly due to a gas leak). He was among the rubble.

The wife and her family were unavailable for comment yesterday.

This is truly a sad story of historical and personal tragedy if these reports prove to be valid.
