Old tabloid news -- Country singer/suicide attempt

Argh! Brain freeze!

Anyone remember the 70's tabloid story of a female country music star who slashed her wrists after her boyfriend (also a famous country music star) broke up with her?

I'm sure I wasn't older than twelve, probably not even ten. I thought it was Tammy Wynette (over George Jones), but I can't find anything about it on the Internet now. Of course, since it was a tabloid headline I recall seeing, it was probably untrue anyway and won't still be around.

After seeing the movie Sordid Lives, my friends and I were wondering what happened to her (she's not in the movie, but is referenced throughout). I looked her up and saw that she died in '98. But I was trying to find that old story that I could swear was about her.

Someone here who was more into country music back then (I sure wasn't) might recall correctly.

I love country music but I don't remember what you are talking about. In 1978 she was supposedly abducted by a masked man at a Nashville mall, driven around in her car, beaten severely and later released. I don't think they ever caught the man. I wondered at the time if it was a publicity stunt.
