Yahoo Webhosting - Sitebuilder Suggestions??

#1 Postby NWIASpotter » Sat Jul 22, 2006 11:46 am

Is officially about the worst web hosting when it comes to add-ons and using other features out there... I can't believe how bad they are when it comes to setting up things and helping you out when something that they promote doesn't work!

Has anybody ever used yahoo webhosting and tried to do something like put up a phpBB forum or the other? And did you ever get it to work??

I've had to have spent nearly a week out of my life doing things to get it to work, but no success yet!

I did my weather site on Yahoo webhosting. Haven't REALLY gotten to the phpbb2 stuff.

Sure Yahoo! has their own weather magnets, but I decided to use the ones from TWC.

Like what do you need help with? I know there are some very techincally-oriented people on this board that wouldn't mind helping.

I'm bugged because I can't get all the windows to open properly for their Pagebuilder feature ever since I got my new computer. I think it has something to do with my firewall and other security stuff.

I agree, Iowa...if it's not the worst, it certainly ranks pretty close.

HMMM, I certainly have no trouble with Geocities...except the pop-up blocker issues.

You won't be able to use most of the PHP functions usually on 'free' hosting providers like yahoo.

You need to 'purchase' 'real' hosting to be able to accomplish your goals. The free guys really stick it to you on the restrictions.

Yahoo web hosting isn't 'free' though, I believe the geocities thing is, but yahoo web hosting certainly is not!! But, the way they have the databases setup for the php functions is what gets you, its' not the normal and default ways that most php scripts use and therefore is where the problem lyes.

I'm getting through on Yahoo support a bit, but they are quite the pain as well having no live support except phone and I can imagine how a phone call might work with a large company like Yahoo.

Either way, probably will be moving to a different host anyway... One that is better and cheaper!! ;)

Well I've dumped Yahoo webhosting to a cheaper and better support hosting site. But, I would like to find a good html editor or sitebuilder so to say to use... Previously we were of course using the Yahoo Sitebuilder which I really liked for the most part, but without being able to use that I'll need to find another one.

Any suggestions?

Well, Microsoft FrontPage is definately a good choice if you're willing to put out the money . . .

Definately leaning more towards the freeware stuff... Found Nvu, which isn't too bad and could probably get used to it. But, still looking for something a little better.
