I can get them for half those prices, however I got a gigantic bag of Kettle-Cooked Chips from grocery stores for $2.99.

Coke or Pepsi out of a machine is anywhere from 50 cents to a dollar, depending upon the size and container (can v. bottle). Generic brands are less.

Two-liter bottles of the main brands have gone from 99 cents to $1.25 in just the past month or so (I'm guessing gas prices).

Bread is about the same as yours in Oz...only we don't have vegemite here, darn it!

As for milk, it's a bit more expensive -- usually $2.49 and up for a half-gallon. I was shocked to see Horizon Organic milk is now at $6.22 a gallon! I don't think it tastes any different than the regular, but I guess for those who like organic stuff, that's quite a bundle to pay for milk.

I really hate that the ultra-healthy stuff is so expensive -- pomegranate juice, blueberries, tomatoes, etc. You gotta go broke to be healthy.

I agree. The prices have really climbed on the healty and organic items. I've seen tomatoes as high as $2.99 and $3.99/lb depending on how they are grown. Vegemite is so salty -- guess it is an acquired taste :D

If you really want high prices -- go to the movies. I was charged $2.50 for a small bottled water at the movie theater! Be smarter to sneak one in.

At all Transit Centers/Stations, a 20 oz. bottle of coke is $1.25 each. The same cost of a single ride on a bus or train.

Is it bad that I have no idea how much any of that costs?

I just pick it up and pay, for some reason I never look at the prices.

I don't know about current prices here, but I though this was some interesting historical facts, here in Havelock, back in the 1870's, you could catch a passenger train from here to New Bern, roughly 15 miles away, for $0.25. They no longer offer passenger service here, its only freight trains now...but thought it was interesting none the less...oh, and you could send your grocery list to New Bern via train and they would load it on the train and send it back here for you...all you had to do was go to the station and hand your list over, then come back the next day and retrieve your stuff...those were the days...*sighes*

inlfation is a crazy thing.......just think in 100 years from now......all these prices will probly be hundreds not dollars! crazy thought

what i dont understand is 1 year ago a 4 kg bag of ice was 1.25, now its 1.75........in 12 months its gone up 50cents, thats like 40%.......if you think about back in the 60's or 70's it would only been like 10 cents or watever.......so its taken 35 years to grow to 1.25, then in 1 year its gone up that much! i cant explain it properly but shouldn't things just go up a few cents per year acording to the CPI

back 10 years ago i can remember a 600ml coke was 1.60.......its almost doubled in that time....im guessing in 10 years from now it will cost $4.50

$1.25

2. can of coke out of a machine....$1.40

0.75 - $1.00

3. 2 litre coke from grocery store $2.73

$1.39

4. 2 litre (half gallon) milk storebrand....$2.03

about $2.50

5. storebrand loaf of bread.....$1.43[/quote]

about $1.50

I have gotten to the point where I just don't even look at the prices of bread and milk; I need to buy them no matter what they cost; and with one grocery store in town it's not like we have a lot of choice about where we go to get them. Thank goodness I kicked my diet coke habit back when the 2L bottles were still 99 cents! I rarely buy soda any more; maybe a couple of 12 packs in the summer of the store brand for the kids at the lake (what a treat ROFL).

just so people have an idea on pay rates......i worked in a supermarket and for a 19 year old the rate is about $14.50 an hour! on a basic job for anyone over 21 and a 38 hour week the minimum pay is around $486 a week! unless your on a traineeship or apreticeship! so even though things are alot more the pay rates pretty much cover it here in a sence we get paid for wat we can do not what we know.......knowing stuff is just a bonus! but still it seems that getting ahead it life just doesn't happen

what about a large big mac meal? here they go for $6.25 and i think our large coke is the same as the american medium drink! the big mac 1/4 punder, mc'chicken and all them burgers go for 3.25 on there own, i think cheasebugers are 1.80!
