KIDS Words That Stay "All In The Family"

#1 Postby azskyman » Thu Jun 12, 2003 10:45 pm

On the lighter side of Storm2k is that opportunity to share in some laughs too.

Thought it would be interesting to see what words...what sayings..or what combinations of words might have grown out of your childhood and still survive inside the walls of your home today.

For example, somewhere along the line...light years ago, my two boys decided to call aspirin or tylenol by their rightful name, "bunda." So, when they need a tylenol...it's, "Hey dad, got any bunda?" Have NO clue, I mean NO NO clue, where it started. But I go right to the cabinet and find it when they ask. Not so easy to do at the drug store though.

"Excuse me miss, could you tell me which row I might find your bunda?"

A "kiki" of course is a pickle. And, if my oldest son needs to take a nap...he needs to take a "mimi's."

At Christmas, people hang out colorful lights called "Wish yous" as in "Wish you a Merry Christmas." And of course instead of getting excited on Christmas eve, the whole family gets "the willies."

I don't take naps OR mimi's...I simply take "time outs."

Any other admissions YOU'RE willing to share among friends? Or am I just stuck out here on this fragile limb by myself?

I had some, but I think I forgot them. I do know that I had trouble saying word-initial f's when I was learning to talk and said "Kood Lion" for "Food Lion" (a grocery chain for those who don't have Food Lions) and "Kench Kies" for "French Fries".

LOL@Steve..

Well lets see. Fruit loops are "foo foo"
Beer is "a tube"
Ketchup is "market sauce... it is called tomato sauce in south africa"
A sandwich is a "zarm"
An Idiot person is a "lemon"
A cigarette is a "zorch"
Going to the store is "flying a mission"

Dang, We have a whole language  I could go on and on. I think we have more alternatives for words because we grew up in a country where there are over 11 official languages.. So we kind of took little bits and pices and made our own. My husband and I can have a whole conversation and not one other person besides ourselves understands what the heck we have just said!
