Student athletes hurt in Irving wreck

By CYNTHIA VEGA / WFAA ABC 8

IRVING, Texas — Irving police believe street racing may have played a role in a car crash with a van carrying high school athletes from the Houston area early Friday.

The 1 a.m. accident on Highway 183 at MacArthur Blvd. caused a chain-reaction crash involving a total of eight vehicles.

And as law officers were sorting all that out, there was a police pursuit of a suspected stolen pickup truck through the same intersection.

Spikes were used to flatten the tires of the Nissan Titan. It came to a stop in a parking lot near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

The driver fled.

The spikes also flattened the tires of a Dallas police cruiser that was following the pickup.
