Woken Up By Thunder While Asleep

#1 Postby Ptarmigan » Sun Aug 27, 2006 1:51 am

Ever been woken in the middle of the night by a loud clap of thunder? It happens to me all the time when I hear a clap of thunder when I am asleep.

If it is a severe thunderstorm here in Lakeland it usually happens when everyone is driving home in rush hour on the interstate. Very rarely do we get rain in the middle of the night like that.

It's happened before, but I usually sleep through them unless it's just REALLY bad.

Yes, I do wake up when there is the start of a thunderstorm...at least 50% of the time. Most often in the mid morning hours (5:30-7:00 am).

Nope... But I've been woken up by thunder while awake :P Nah jk.... I actually wake up when there is any flash in the sky or slight thunder... then go outside regardless of hour, and admire.

Usually only during cold front season. Last year, for instance, it seemed like every single spring CF into Houston came in during the overnight hours. I was woken up a lot.

Lots of times I have been awoken by a bad storm, and here in the lightening capital of the world there is almost always thunder with any storm we get.

Last September there was a big lightning storm here, I will never forget it. The thunder was the loudest ever I've ever heard here in San Diego, in fact I have some radar images saved.

Strange, you're not too far from Orlando, which gets lots of nighttime storms.

St Pete is more than 70 miles from Orlando so it is highly possible for a storm to wake Otown up and not even make it to StPete to wake fact789 up, or even me. Polk county is halfway between St Petersburg and Orlando on the I 4 corridor.

You can hear thunder as far as 70 miles, at night. I have heard thunder that far away.

Thursday Night at 12:45am while ernesto was moving through, a loud clap of thunder awakened me, then the wind and heavy rain kept myt awake for awhile. I really hate night time storms because they always awaken me and I enjoy watching the storms roll in, cannot do that at night.
