Baba O'Riley question for Who fans or New Yorkers

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Sat May 13, 2006 8:17 pm

Am I missing a connection somewhere or making a connection where there isn't one?

The Who is a British group, right?

However, I clearly remember during the Concert for New York (9/11), The Who opened and played "Baba O'Riley." Almost all the firefighters and cops were singing along with it as if it were an anthem for them. Furthermore, it's used as the theme song now for "CSI: NY."

So, is there some connection of the song with New York City that pre-dates 9/11?

Thanks! It's one of those weird things I think about when I'm watching CSI or the song comes on the radio, but I never got a chance to ask until now. :)

I LOVE THE WHO!! They are one of my all time favorites and that whole concert I have on video, cd, etc. It was one of the bast concerts I've ever watched - tv or in person.

Anyway, it's a teenage anthem song and a good portion of those firefighters, police, EMT's are from that generation, like myself, that grew up to that song. That came out in the 70's - the majority of their songs were from the 70's. My favorite albums are Quadrophenia and Who's Next?

The song is also about independence.

Steph, I hear they'll be touring in North America over the next few months. You going?
