If you are a level 1 employee, the cap also applies to you.

This is ridiculous. Employee turnover has got to cost a heck of a lot more than employee retention does... or have I slipped into an alternate reality where nothing makes sense anymore?

This sounds like a play taken directly from Home Depot's new management book. Time variance - where employees get gigged for utilizing a benefit: sick time.

I wonder if workers can weasel some pay increases in lieu of benefits, seeing as they can't reasonably use them anymore.

Bi-lo had the seem thing but if you were 10 min late you better find yourself another job because you would be FIRED no ifs or buts. The manger we had at our store would look on the computer and see if anybody were late for work.If you were late ONLY 30 seconds you were written up.If you were sick you need to call 6 hours before you came in and you better have a doctors note with his phone number and they do call the doctor and ask why???He or She has to be out. Also they tell you no Overtime if you get 1 min in OT you were FIRED.So by the end of the work week if you are close to overtime you better clockout, but what about your work???That has to be finished before you leave. So guess what??I had to work off the clock to get it finished. My 6 years there 2000 hours not payed for.My grocery manger probably over 5000 hours not payed for!!!!They tell you if you get OT your FIRED and if you do not finish your work then your FIRED!!!!a catch 22 in away. And the list can go on on on on on.I can also tell you about A&P and Win-dixe but Win-dixe was low paying but layed back in a way.

When i was laid off of my job of 18 years a few years ago, I had gotten a job at Walmart (it was Christmas time)and all I can say is that I only stayed there 3 weeks, they work you to death and the pay at the time was $7.25!!!! And they too did the work off the clock thing, and I did report them at the time, but I quit, it was too much work for the little pay that they offered. They actually yelled at me for leaving at midnight on Black Friday, they told me that I had to stay till closing, I yelled back at them telling them to look at my application, I put down till midnight, they told me that on no on Black Friday night you have to stay, I said "Pffttt" and walked out, found out that next day the people were stuck till 4AM!!!

Like I said before I'm sticking with the Big K, just wish they had a yarn department, but just found out that Smellmart is going to get rid of their yarn so all the more reason not to shop there, for me anyway.

I agree with you! See, they used to do this years ago and it did not work. The new CEO has changed it back. Long time employees at this particular test store have been either retiring or just quitting. It is a shame.

Well Since Wallmart is so Evil to its employees its a good thing no one is FORCED to work for them huh? :-)

K.. On my way out the door now. Need to go save money to put my son through school by going to Walmart and buying goods for much cheaper. Maybe if you work for them they dont "care" enough about you in your opinion.. But as a consumer they are giving me exactly what I need.

I still shop at Walmart but I am never gonna work there. I was just in there yesterday.

My sister is a major part of this test store. She has dedicated 15 years to this company only to be done like that. 15 YEARS! She also has two children and is a single parent.

She has put in her notice and will be working for the city of Roswell in a record retention position making alot more money and better health insurance plus benefits. So no, she does not have to work there.

Money talks and BS walks. Sadly it's all about profit and sometimes the employees suffer. It's the same where I work. I will shop at walmart though, as long as it's late at night. I hate the crowds.

I am in no way defending the way they "treat" their employees.. But they treat me as a consumer (money wise) great and that is what I need and is why I will continue to shop there.. My point is don't work for them if they are mistreating you. If they mistreat you shame on them. If they mistreat you and you stay then shame on you imo

You are right! One thing though, I will NEVER forget what they did for Pascagoula after the storm. These photos still make me proud.

BTW Chad, I knew what you meant. :D

My mother worked for wal mart for 7 years. She always had excellent reviews on her performance, only missed 2 days of work in 7 years and was always on time. Her pay became fairly high (for retail work) at $11/hour, mainly because of her reviews, she always got the max raise. One day, she was taking out a small bag of trash but instead picked up another white bag that had some small bottles of glitter and popsicle sticks, she realized she had picked up the wrong back and was walking back to get the right one and put the bag with "goods" back. The manager stopped her, had the district guy come in and they came up with that she had a conspiracy against wa mart and was trying to cause them to lose money by throwing out merchandise (yeah, glitter and sticks). She NEVER threw anything away, never even walked outside with it, it was simply a case of grabbing the wrong bag, they looked identical. She is 57 years old, single, with a spot free record. She was FIRED immediately and can never be rehired. I told her that it was because her pay was too high and they needed to get rid of her.

A few things:

First, here's a link to an article written a few years back on Walmart and how it does business with its suppliers. The article is an interesting read, well worth looking at, whether you're for the company or against it.

http://www.fastcompany.com/online/77/walmart.html

Second, most companies have a policy about employees discussing insider information outside the workplace. Before anyone who currently works for Walmart (or any other company) posts on the Internet about company policy, it might be a good idea to find out if such posts are acceptable to the company.

Believe it or not, employees where I work have gotten fired for less. No one is truly anonymous on the Internet - it wouldn't take much for the Walmart powers to figure out who was sharing their company news online and put a stop to it.

Just a word of caution. Take it for what it's worth.

Well I do not work there and wouldn't. I doubt Walmart is that technical because managers of the company break that rule everyday.

But, it is an interesting article.

I hate to defend the mart of Wal's but here goes..

Despite the salary cap, despite the dress code. I actually LIKE my job.

The dress code actually isn't that bad. Maybe I'll like khakis after a while

I was told.. I'm nowhere near the "cap" for my position. My cap is over $16/hr.. I'll probably never get there {at least until I become a manager lol or until I ditch Wal
Mart and go into journalism} lol

The associates, may all or most hate their jobs. But no matter what.. WE BACK EACH OTHER UP 100% if another gets in trouble.

Plus.. I am everybodys' son, brother or around the younger girls my age "the "at work boyfriend" " :lol: {only joking on the last 1}

Plus.. I am arguably the most liked person there. Ok.. enough talk about myself..

There are days I can't stand my job. But I really do like it a lot of times and have learned to tolerate the good and bad issues..

Ok enough said..

Good for you  That's all that matters, the fact that YOU are happy! Trust me, ANY job and I don't care WHAT kind it is, most of us dislike it from time to time, I mean heck, I get SICK of law enforcement but down deep, I "LOVE" it, it's where I can put my best foot forward and help those in NEED!! I worked a grocery chain for 20 years here in Az....they didn't treat us THAT bad but still....they had some *shady* business practices too but I got what I wanted from them, a DANG good retirement.....bottom line, take what you can GET from THEM and RUN
