Anyone Watch The Dog Whisperer on Nat'l Geo Channel?

#1 Postby JenBayles » Mon Sep 18, 2006 9:46 am

I started watching the show with Cesar Millan this summer, and finally got off my lazy butt and adopting his techniques with my 2 mutts. The older dog, Chica, is nearly 12 years old and has always been so unstable and unpredictable that we did the worst possible thing: We kept her away from people and made her unstable mental state worse.

After 2 months of steadily increasing walks, Dave and I taking over the "security management" of the house, and establishing rules, boundaries and discipline, Chica is a new dog. For the first time in her life she can be around children and actually enjoy it. The other day we came across 6 little squealing girls who threw their arms around both dogs and chattered nonstop. Chica just sat down, grinned, and ate it up. We have NEVER been able to allow her arounds an excited group of kids - would have resulted in a bite in short order.

I know there are a lot of dog lovers on this board, and I highly recommend this show and Cesar's training techniques. Check it out sometime. :D

I have watched it and wish that I could adopt his techniques with my dogs during their walks, But it is very hard to controp 3 dogs at once.

isn't it funny how he talks to the owners at the beginning and they look dumbfounded b/c the the things he says make no sense. but then by the end its amazing how everything he said works.

I applied the techniques to both our dogs and then added the 120 lb lab who lives next door to us. It works! I need to get a pic of it because it looks hilarious - 120 Me walking 240 lbs of canine.
