Radio Station Change

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Mon Oct 09, 2006 8:44 am

Last week, many of the Smooth Jazz radio listeners in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area were blindsighted by a change in radio formats. KOAI-FM best known as "107.5 The Oasis" (the only Smooth Jazz station in the area) has been changed to "MOViN 107.5", the new format consists of rap, rock, and pop songs from the 80s to right now. It's an event which some smooth jazz listeners say a "dumbest move CBS Radio ever made." Programming from "The Oasis" continues on the official website and on 107.5 HD-2 (HD Radio needed). KNTU-FM is another jazz station, but 4 out of 10 listeners were lucky to get it, because the signal is not so good.

I can get the same kind of rap and rock music by listening to 106.1 Kiss FM.

Your first mistake was continuing to listen to terrestrial radio.

I made the switch to Sirius satellite radio. I can't bare to listen to regular radio anymore. When I ride in a car that doesn't have satellite I want to shoot myself.

With satellite, you don't have to worry about station changes and there is at least one station for every kind of music you can imagine. Having listened to both, I greatly prefer Sirius, but even XM is better than FM/AM.

I have to vote for Sirius also. I have been a big fan of pause/rewind tv on our sat system for years. I use it all the time on my Sirius radio as well.

Apparently, the DFW area wasn't the only one with the "Movin'" brand, here's more info on the new "Movin'" station via Wikipedia:

It seems like smooth jazz just does not do well in most markets. That is one format this is under-populated.
