Well - it turned out there was noone that worked there with that name nor was there anything wrong with my wheel. An angel was watching over me that day as well. To this day I shutter over what might have happened if I had accepted a ride from him.

Gulp.. that is scary!

Good Job!

Ladies be very careful..damn freaks out there! Don't be afraid to write down a license plate number. I would have reported that guy to the authorities..

My last hitch hike was on a Native Reserve. I was buying cheap smokes in Aamjiwnaang First Nations(Sarnia), when this stray Golden Retriever puppy went running on by. I chased the dog for a long time, and finally caught it. The town my grandparents live in was a 30 minute walk down the road, and I was carrying this semi-large dog. I walked down the St. Clair Parkway for about ten minutes, and a car full of Natives pulled over and drove me back to town. I didn't feel unsafe at any time, even though the Natives of Lambton County have been aggressive(Ipperwash Standoff namely), and I had the dog which might have intimidated them.

Hey, it's a free ride.

Aquawind -I would have but he seemed so sincere that I didn't think to do it - was worried about not having my wheel fall off! I know better now.

Depends on the situation and how many people are in my vehicle for backup.

I've been in a "thumbing" situation in the past (several of us old hippie types) and nice little old folks have picked us up
and chatted wonderfully until our destination. We had a great time talking and were appreciative of the ride.

But, you DO have to trust your instincts - even if you ARE the hitchhiker - there's some rides that you just don't accept.
