i got a letter in the mail today from the US mint that after the state quarters are complete, they will be going making presidential quarters over 9 years and 44 or 45 presidents.

i got a letter in the mail today from the US mint that after the state quarters are complete, they will be going making presidential quarters over 9 years and 44 or 45 presidents.

Yes and no.

After the statehood quarters program finished, the mint will return to the old style quarter.

However, starting this year, presidential dollars will be minted.

Starting next month, four presidents a year will be honored on golden dollars, along with the old Sacagawea dollar.

Every president will be honored, with Grover Cleveland being honored twice for his non-consecutive terms, with one exception: a president has to be died for at least two years to be honored.

At this time, there are 39 coins expected to be minted. Every president from Washington to Ford, and Reagan.

Carter, Bush Sr., Clinton, Bush Jr., and other future Presidents will only be honored if they die two or more years before their coin is to be minted.



There is also a gold bullion program to honor the First Spouses.

Also, regarding the statehood quarters... there is a possibility of an extension to that program.

The congressional representative for DC is trying to pass a bill that would extend the program an additional year to produce coins representing DC, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

For those of you who collect...

The first coin of this series, featuring George Washington, was released on the 15th. You probably won't find one in general circulation (something about Americans fearing a dollar coin ), but you may be able to get one at the post office. Also, try your local bank. That's where I got mine.

Very cool. Maybe I will try to get a few of these instead of the normal Sacagawea gold dollar ones I normally get for when the tooth fairy visits. My kids love the gold coins.
